Irvine Means Business This project aims to improve the town's economy through partnerships with local businesses and organisations. It's first project, Open for Business, prepared the way for the hosting of the Men's Scottish Open Golf Championship 2017 by: creating a town website (irvinescotland.info), featuring Irvine's heritage and places of interest; producing a new tourism leaflet; creating a town brand; and sending out a media pack to all the organisations covering the tournament. This was jointly produced with ai, Irvine & District Tourist Association and local design consultants, Scruffy Dug Design Solutions. These four partners are now engaged in developing a new marketing strategy and a range of new initiatives which aim to grow the local economy.
The Waterbridge Trust Named after the historic structure which once linked the eastern and western parts of the town, this charitable foundation will support the work of community groups. It aims to embark on an ambitious programme of fundraising to meet the goals set by the community. Two of the proposed five Trustees have been agreed, it is to be hoped that the remaining two posts will be filled by the end 2020. This will enable community groups to access new funding by the middle of 2021.
The Irvine Heritage Project This project seeks to promote Irvine's remarkable story. We are developing a video, an information pack and an audio addition to The Irvine Archive. We hope to work with local schools, communities and groups on delivering a range of outcomes. This includes the 2016 initiative, The Irvinites, which celebrates our noteworthy 'weans'; people like publisher Alexander Macmillan, artists George Henry and Agnes Miller Parker and poet and social reformer James Montgomery. We are working with the University of the West of Scotland, The Glasgow School of Art and the National Library of Scotland on this project. We have developed a range of videos, given talks on this subject and produced a website: https://sites.google.com/site/irvinites
We wish use this material as part of a further initiative, one which fulfills our economic development objective: raising awareness of Irvine nationally and internationally (which may aid both tourism and inward investment).
Irvine 700 On May 12 2022, Irvine will be celebrating the 700th anniversary of a Royal Charter granted by King Robert I (Robert the Bruce). In cooperation with others, we hope to begin work on preparations for this in late 2020; launching the first schools project in early 2021.
imagine irvine In conjunction with Irvine and Dreghorn Co-op, we have begun to explore the potential of creating a community-owned media production and events promotion company.
Irvine Lions We have prepared an ambitious programme of volunteer recruitment, not only for ourselves, but for any local group in need of more 'hands to the wheel'. As part of this we have progressed plans for a music and food event in Central Irvine, at which any local group can 'make their pitch' for new volunteers.
