A school-issued computer is an important learning tool. Students must take good care of it so it works well and lasts all year. These tips will help your child keep his or her computer safe.
Keep it in a safe place – Store it in a backpack or on a desk when not in use.
Charge it every night – Make sure the battery is full for school.
Put your computer in a safe place when you charge it. That way, pets and younger brothers and sisters won’t trip over the cord, knock it off the table or counter, and break it.
Be sure to keep chargers away from pets. They love to chew on them.
Use clean hands – Keep the keyboard and screen free of dirt and grease.
Use a soft rag to clean the screen. If it’s very dirty, you can dampen a rag with a little water to wipe it off.
Never spray anything on the screen
Keep food and drinks away – Spills can damage the computer.
Use a case or cover – Protects the laptop from scratches and breaks.
Many schools provide a cover or a special laptop bag for students.
Always carry your laptop in the special bag, not your backpack. Heavy books in a backpack can push on the screen and break it.
Be gentle – Do not drop, throw, or put heavy things on the computer.
Don’t throw your backpack on the floor or across the room when you get home.
Be careful when you close it. – Do not slam the screen shut.
Log out when done – Keeps personal information safe.
It helps to restart your computer at school at least once a week to keep the software up to date.
Don't overload it – Don't download too many big files or programs.
Follow school rules – Use the computer only for schoolwork and learning.
Tell the school if it breaks – Report problems right away to avoid bigger issues.
