🏛️Kindred Space: Heritage & Wellness
Welcome to the Heritage & Wellness Room — where movement, history, and wellbeing connect.
This space brings together my background in archaeology, heritage, and community health to explore how we can use our shared past to inspire present-day wellness, belonging, and inclusion.
With an MA in Archaeology, a BA in Classics, a PGCE and specialist knowledge of UK heritage and wellbeing strategy, I’m passionate about integrating cultural heritage with physical and mental health initiatives.
I work across the intersection of:
🏺 Heritage & Place — exploring how connection to place, culture, and landscape supports wellbeing
💪 Health & Movement — promoting accessible, inclusive physical activity in heritage contexts
🤝 Community & Policy — supporting projects aligned with government and sector strategies on wellbeing, inclusion, and engagement
My work is informed by frameworks such as:
The UK Government’s Wellbeing and Heritage strategy
Historic England’s “Heritage and Wellbeing” research
The NHS Social Prescribing movement
The Five Ways to Wellbeing model
I’m particularly interested in how movement, storytelling, and heritage environments can create connection — across generations, abilities, and communities.
💫 Public Archaeology & Wellbeing
My work in public archaeology and wellbeing explores how heritage can be used to open conversations about body image, identity, and health.
One strand of this work — focusing on eating disorders, student wellbeing, and learning through the Venus figurines — has been recognised as an exemplar project by the University of Chester.
This work highlights how archaeological learning can support reflection, empathy, and self-understanding — connecting past representations of the body with modern experiences of embodiment and self-worth.
It continues to inform how I teach, create, and design inclusive wellness programmes today.
