PATENTS

I have a patent (US patent no: US06588610, PCT patent no: WO02070388A1) on "Anti-sway control of a crane under operator's command" with EG Gilbert. This patent describes a novel method for anti-sway control of a crane under simultaneous trolley and hoist motions. The method compensates for the sway motion under arbitrary operator's command. The following two video clips show the motions of the load with and without the anti-sway system using the setup in our lab. Implementation onto a container crane is currently underway.

System Without Antisway System with Antisway

I have a patent (WO 2007/061386) on "A device for Laparoscopic or thoracoscopic sugery" with AS Pang and CK Chui. This patent describes a device that views the inside of the abdomen in replacement of a conventional Laparoscope. The device can be placed anywhere inside the abdominal wall, held in place by magnets on the outside of the abdomen. It has the advantage of performing the same surgery with one less opening than conventional Laparoscopy.

I have another patent pending on "An improve Cannula adaptor" with AS Pang, CK Chui and CS Yee. This patent describes an adaptor that allows multiple medical instruments to enter the abdomen during a Laparoscopic surgery.

AWARDS

• Together with S. Sathiya Keerthi and Martin Lee, our team came in first runner up in the International Competition of KDD (Knowledge Discovery and Datamining) 2000
• Together with S. Sathiya Keerthi, engineers and graduates students from mechanical engineering and Design Technology Institute and colleagues from Genome Institute of Singapore, our team again came in first runner up in the KDD International Competition in 2002
• Recipient of Overseas Graduate Scholarship from National University of Singapore, 1988.
• Recipient of IES Gold medal award for being top student in his graduating class of 1986
• Recipient of the Godfery Rajasooria Silver Medal, 1986
• Recipient of Singapore International Chamber of Commerce City Commemoration Prize Fund Award, 1986
