Overview

Charlotte Linlin, better known as "Big Mom", is the captain of the Big Mom Pirates and was formerly one of the Four Emperors ruling over the New World, as the only female member of that group. She is the matriarch of the very large Charlotte Family, whose many children make up the infrastructure of her crew. She is also the creator of the unique race of creatures known as Homies, who mainly inhabit all of Totto Land, and happily serve her. Big Mom possesses three special homies, Napoleon, Prometheus, and Zeus, but unhappy with Zeus' continued failures, Big Mom decided to disown and replace him with a new Homie named Hera.

Big Mom rules over Totto Land as its queen, seeking to form it into a utopia where all the world's races can live together in peace without discrimination or segregation. In her childhood, Linlin was raised in the Sheep's House under Carmel, whose Devil Fruit power she eventually inherited, before co-founding her own pirate crew with Streusen following Carmel's death.

Big Mom was also part of the legendary Rocks Pirates as one of its core members. After clashing against fellow Emperor Kaidou (another ex-member of Rocks' crew), she formed a alliance with Kaidou and the Beasts Pirates with the intention of conquering the world. However, this never came to fruition as their alliance would go on to be defeated by the Ninja-Pirate-Mink-Samurai Alliance. Following her loss in Wano Country to Eustass Kid and Trafalgar Law, the World Economy News Paper released a new listing of the Four Emperors, with Big Mom no longer being included among them anymore.

In Wano, due to being closed off, Linlin's reputation was largely unknown, especially with the more immediate threat, Kaidou, occupying the country. However, after the Raid on Onigashima, due to her monstrous power and ability to spawn "yōkai" from myth, she was accredited in their country's folklore of the event as the "Great Yōkai Oiran".

Big Mom was the last of the Four Emperors to be named; her epithet was first revealed after the Summit War of Marineford by Eustass Kid and her real name was revealed by Pappag on Fish-Man Island. She is the main antagonist of the Whole Cake Island Arc and the Whole Cake Island Saga as a whole, the secondary antagonist of the second half of the Wano Country Arc, the secondary antagonist of the Wano Country Saga overall, and a major antagonist of the second half of the series.

As formerly one of the Four Emperors, Big Mom was recognized as one of the four most powerful pirates in the world. As the only female member, this effectively makes Big Mom the single most powerful female pirate in the world. Five Elder St. Shepherd Ju Peter stated that Big Mom was one of the few people capable of stopping Blackbeard. When her fellow former Emperor Kaidou, known as the world's "Strongest Creature", threatened to kill her if she came to his territory, Big Mom simply invited him to try and said he would not be able to dissuade her. Even the Straw Hat Pirates recognized that she could crush them quickly and easily if they fought her recklessly.

As the captain of the Big Mom Pirates, Big Mom has amassed an extremely powerful crew, as well as several strong subordinates such as Jinbe, a fish-man and former Warlord of the Sea, and Capone Bege, a member of the Worst Generation. She possesses considerable influence within the Underworld as well, having connections to the Vinsmoke Family, which leads the legendary Germa 66. Those who marry her children automatically become part of her crew.

While under Big Mom's protection, Fish-Man Island was protected from pirate attacks, indicating a powerful influence similar to that of the late Whitebeard. She is known to destroy entire countries over sweets and is intimidating enough that even her underlings Pekoms and Tamago, who are powerful in their own right, are afraid of talking to her when she is angered. In fact, almost everyone, including her own children, has been shown to fear her. Ironically, this fear makes Big Mom stronger due to the nature of her Devil Fruit powers. Big Mom's arrival during a battle between her crew and the Sun Pirates and Germa 66 brought great jubilation to her crew, indicating that her presence would likely turn the tide of the battle in their favor. After regaining her memory Big Mom was also able to scare Queen of the Beast Pirates, with the latter even admitting that he did not stand a chance in battle against her, despite having defied her when she was amnesiac over oshiruko earlier. Even after being captured and held by pure Seastone chains and kept under watch of all three All-Stars of the Beasts Pirates, the crew continued to feed her sweets to keep her in a good mood, while constantly fearing her presence alone.

In spite of Big Mom's incredible strength, her greatest weakness is her wavering mental state. Whenever she enters her craving sickness, she will act wild and out of control, endangering everyone around her, including her allies, and becoming unable to think or act rationally until she gets the food she is craving. Similarly, if her portrait of Mother Carmel is damaged in any way, Big Mom will suffer a mental breakdown, falling to her knees and crying while becoming completely oblivious to everything around her, even when threatened, as seen during Bege's assassination attempt.

At the early age of six, Linlin's first known bounty was 50,000,000, implying that even at such a young age she was considered a significant threat. This bounty later increased to at least 500,000,000and due to her status as a former Emperor, her current bounty is 4,388,000,000.

Once she has them, Big Mom can infuse the stolen souls into objects to give them life, turning them into beings called homies, which act as her servants. Nearly anything can be made into a homie, including animals, plants, minerals, liquids, furniture, food, buildings and even intangible things such as fire, air, and light. Anything made into a homie gains human-like attributes, such as the ability to walk and talk. The only things that cannot be made into homies are people and corpses.

She can also consume her own soul in order to make herself bigger and stronger, as well as infuse souls into her own skeleton, allowing her to heal her own broken bones by commanding them to return to their proper structure.

She can also create incarnations of her own soul that will complete the task of collecting soul.

Special Homies

In addition to creating homies from the souls she has taken from others, Big Mom can use fragments of her own soul to create "special homies", which are far more powerful than regular homies due to being made from fragments of her own incredibly powerful soul. Her special homies originally consisted of Zeus, a thundercloud summoned with her left hand; Prometheus, a sun summoned with her right hand; and Napoleon, a bicorne she wears on her head. These three special homies are Big Mom's most powerful weapons.

Zeus can unleash extremely potent lightning bolts, powerful enough to instantly knock Raid Suit users unconscious and shower entire battlefields in lighting. Prometheus' flames are capable of burning fire-resistant opponents and he can expand to a tremendous size to incinerate entire forests. Big Mom can also combine their powers to manipulate the weather and create massive storms. She can also ride either Zeus or Prometheus to fly through the air at high speed. Napoleon can telepathically receive information from other homies and relay it to Big Mom, and can also reveal a retractable blade and hilt, allowing him to transform into various swords with devastating offensive power, which he can use to both attack on his own or be wielded by Big Mom in combat, where she can swing him with enough force to cleave through entire islands. Big Mom is able to still control her special homies to some degree, even when they are unconscious, as she is seen using Prometheus and Zeus to fly after they had been knocked out during a battle.

During the Straw Hats' invasion of Totto Land, Zeus was captured by Nami and turned into her servant, although Big Mom managed to reclaim him during the Fire Festival raid on Onigashima. However, after once again losing Zeus during the battle against the Worst Generation on the rooftop of the Skull Dome, Big Mom, angered by Zeus' perceived incompetence, and at Prometheus' suggestion, decided to replace him with a new thundercloud special homie named Hera, who proved to be much stronger (punching a massive hole in the Skull Dome) and more in sync with her fellow special homies than Zeus ever was, allowing for Big Mom and her homies to use stronger and more complex moves. Big Mom later had Hera attempt to consume Zeus in order to merge their souls together and increase her power.

While Big Mom's homies have often given her a major advantage in battle and maneuverability, they have also been exploited as a form of weakness where various characters have used strategies that involved separating her homies from her. The result often put Big Mom in unfavorable situations that her opponents would then use as an opportunity against her.

Haki

Big Mom is one of the very few people in the world who can use all three forms of Haki. Law stated that he could not directly move Big Mom around inside his ROOM due to her Haki being too strong.

Haoshoku Haki

Big Mom possesses mastery in the usage of Haoshoku Haki. She was first seen using it at Sanji and Pudding's wedding to knock a man out for questioning her relationship with Mother Carmel. When her portrait of Carmel was destroyed, a distraught Big Mom unleashed her Haki, which, along with her loud screams, incapacitated most of the party guests.

When she fought with Kaidou at Onigashima, the clash of their Haoshoku Haki created a massive shockwave that split the heavens. Big Mom is among the small "handful" of users who can use the advanced application of "infusing" Haoshoku Haki into themselves, as signified from the black lightning emanating from the infused area. As such, this drastically increases her attack power, supplemented by her natural physical strength and Busoshoku Haki.

Busoshoku Haki

Big Mom is an highly skilled user of Busoshoku Haki. By hardening one of her arms, she easily blocked Luffy's Kong Gun, a notable feat, since that attack had been shown to be capable of breaking through the powerful Haki defenses of highly skilled Busoshoku Haki users such as Doflamingo, Cracker, and even Katakuri. Her casual use of Busoshoku sports a flame-like pattern at its ending, same as when Luffy and Katakuri use their strongest attacks.

She is also capable of using the advanced application of projecting her Busoshoku Haki out from her body, allowing her to strike opponents without directly making contact with them.

In the anime, when Big Mom uses advanced Busoshoku Haki, it is shown as a yellow and red colored flowing aura.

Kenbunshoku Haki

Big Mom has the ability to use Kenbunshoku Haki. She was able to gauge the power of Zoro's sword, warning Kaido to dodge his attack

Weapons

Big Mom's bicorne, Napoleon, can reveal a hidden blade and handle and become her personal weapon. Using it in combination with her monstrous strength allows her to unleash powerful shockwaves that can cause massive destruction. None have yet shown to prove able to withstand Napoleon's powerful strikes, as even Jinbe was overwhelmed by the blade despite putting up his best Haki defenses. Napoleon can also be engulfed in Prometheus's flames to increase its attack power.
