Andy Freer

Episode 17

Up To Snuff

Andy Freer is the Artistic Director of Snuff Puppets, a puppetry institution of Melbourne that was incorporated in 1992. Andy has been performing as a puppeteer for over thirty years, right back to his days growing up in Canberra before a whimsical stop off Melbourne in Melbourne after a particularly successful show in Adelaide became somewhat more permanent.

In this episode, I discuss the origins of Snuff and it's creative point of difference. I ask about Andy's philosophy and the lessons he has learned as a puppeteer. We talk about his punk origins and the anarchic postmodern art movements of the 80's and 90's. We also discuss Snuff's work internationally and at home with the People's Puppet Project as well as Snuff's current fundraising campaign, Snuff Lovers. It's a jam packed episode.
