The North Portico was constructed in 1829 when Andrew Jackson was President [15].
The South Portico was constructed in the early 1800s during James Monroe's Presidency [7].
The building of the West Wing was one of the many projects that took place to improve the White House in 1902 during Theodore Roosevelt's Presidency [6]. It was originally an office building that Roosevelt used as his office. It also held the first ever Oval Office [14].
The Rose Garden. Built in the 1960s [9]. The idea to construct the Rose Garden came from John F. Kennedy following a trip to France, England, and Austria. Kennedy stated that he had seen beautiful gardens on his trip and the White House did not have anything like it. He wanted it to be both useful and attractive [8].
