The North Portico was constructed in 1829 when Andrew Jackson was President [15].
The South Portico was constructed in the early 1800s during James Monroe's Presidency [7].
The building of the West Wing was one of the many projects that took place to improve the White House in 1902 during Theodore Roosevelt's Presidency [6]. It was originally an office building that Roosevelt used as his office. It also held the first ever Oval Office [14].
Other projects that took place to update the interior of the White House include:
Total remodel of the interior of the White House, except the outer walls, under President Harry Truman.
Small updating of lighting, elevators, and beams.
Terraces being built as seen on the South Portico. [5][13]
