New $500 School Council Grant
Through the Alberta School Council Engagement Grant, each school council will receive $500 to better support individual school councils and strengthen engagement with parents. This could include creating more school events that involve parents and developing a broader range of tools to communicate with them.
Edmonton Catholic Schools purchases our membership to Alberta School Council's Association and has sponsored our membership for the last two years at their Annual Conference - if you'd like to be a delegate for April 2022, please let us know at olmcsac@gmail.com
Our council has already taken the ASCA School Council Purpose level one workshop so we're eligible for any of the level two ASCA workshops - it's up to us to decide which one and when. Click the image to find out more.

Back to School with EPL (Edmonton Public Libraries)
Check out awesome tutoring sites like Solaro, practice your second language development with Muzzy or Rosetta Stone. It's all at our EPL. Edmonton Strathcona branch is closet to OLMC and Whitemud Crossing has a sprawling children's section, and it's our favourite to bike to. Read more about Back to School with EPL
School Council (SC)
We are proud of our cooperative and caring partnership between school, families, parish, and community. Thank you to everyone who has donated their time and talents to making OLMC a better place.
The Alberta School Council Resource Manual identifies the benefits of parental involvement in their children's education as:
highter student achievement
better student attendance
more positive student attitudes and behaviours
higher student graduation rates
Every parent or guardian of an OLMC student is a voting member of our SC and is encouraged to attend meetings to discuss and vote on pertinent issues. SC makes finanical recommendations to our School Fundraising Society. We are voting members of the Alberta School Councils Association (ASCA). Our SC is governed by the Alberta Schools Act. Our Principal emails the meeting agenda, previous minutes, and Microsoft TEAMS link prior to each meeting (third Tuesday of the month - determined at our AGM in September).
Fundraising Society (FS)
The OLMC Fundraising Society oversees the financial operations for the School Council. This society is bound by legistlation of the Alberta Societies Act. Our meetings are scheduled for right after the SC meetings. We decide how to raise funds and make the purchases for tech, books, instruments, or special events that our school asks for. We have a treasurer to manage the bank accounts for our $40,000 worth of AGLC gaming funds and our general accounts.
We know there are many parents who would like to have a voice on our committee, a say in the decisions making, or ask questions, and we welcome all of you.
