My interest in communications and writing began in 2013 when I was diagnosed with Muscular Dystrophy. My life drastically improved when I went to camp and found acceptance and support. Camp attendance encouraged me to participate in the disability community, volunteering and participating in local Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) events. I also continue to serve as an MDA Ambassador since 2020.
My family has partnered in recent years with their neighbor’s non-profit, “The Flying Pigs Foundation.” It is one of the top St. Louis MDA teams. These experiences fueled my advocacy for the disability community and my passion for the non-profit and healthcare industry.
As a college student, I quickly realized there were many disability barriers of which I was unaware. Persistent efforts with my roommate resulted in improvements to the football stadium’s accessibility through the installation of accessible signs. I have transferable skills such as problem-solving, creativity, interpersonal skills, leadership, project management, research, adaptability, and attention to detail made this change possible. I joined the Mizzou Disability Coalition (MDC), collaborating on campus improvements such as replacing worn truncated domes and replacing accessible buttons that were not working in buildings. During that time, I served as VP of MDC, seeking greater accessibility and adaptability across campus from 2020-2023. I was also on the Chancellor's Committee for People with Disabilities around the same time.
In addition to my campus involvement, I joined a non-profit FestAbility in 2019 to further support, empower, and educate others about the disability community. With this project, I led a successful initiative to expand Instagram reach by 20% through impactful disability awareness and educational posts. She utilized performance metrics to target and engage wider audiences within the disabled community. I enjoy making a difference with a strong work ethic and determination while being creative.
I graduated in 2023 with a journalism degree, emphasizing Strategic Communications, with minors in business and psychology from the University of Missouri-Columbia.
Beyond my professional goals and aspirations, you can find me crafting, reading, coloring, or writing.
As a young woman with a disability, with personal and professional experiences, I am driven to bring a voice to the unheard, share knowledge, and unite the disability community. Through my writing and strong work ethic, I aspire to make a meaningful impact on the community and beyond.
I am is determined, passionate, hard-working, and creative, and can bring value to any company I work for.
