I was able to go with my school to The Netherlands due to a last minute drop out for the annual Model UN leadership international trip. I had decided that I would not take part in the trip at the beginning of my junior year, but when last minute circumstances arranged too perfectly it was an opportunity I could not say no to. I found out a week before we left and went with four other Model UN leaders. This was definitely an unexpected opportunity, but proved to be one that would shape my life for the better.

Take Aways:
My time in the Netherlands was unexpected, but filled with many fun memories and new friends, art, history, and experience I plan to carry with me. This was my first time in Europe and it was completely different than my experience in Peru, and in the best way ever. I loved hearing new languages and traveling to a place where so many speak English as a second language was definitely something new I hadn't expreienced in Peru. I thought it was very interesting how many people were bi or even trilingual even from other countries that came to the conference. This trip was one where I learned a lot more than just the culture in Netherlands because so many people brought theirs to the conference. This experience truly taught me what traveling is supposed to be: a new experience where we can embrace all cultures even if we are not in the place we traditionally call home.
This trip was also a driving factor for my Senior Research Project which I am studying why English has become the dominant language used to communicate internationally and how it may impact smaller and unique languages over time.
