Now it's time for me to really plan out how I'm going to be approaching and shaping my artifacts. I'm most excited about the planter, so I'll be starting with that. I had started to mess around with the shape before, and in my head I know for this one I'll only really need one simple shape to start, so I'll start with a hexagon for the base because I do want a window that displays more of the succulent and acts as sort of the door for when someone would put another plant in.
During class and a bit after this was as far as I got. I'm still getting the hang of this program but for the most part I am very frustrated as I'm facing some difficulties when I extrude edges and then edit faces and vertexes. It seems like it likes to duplicate some of the things I transform to reposition and rescale, so it's really frustrating to have it continuously break for a reason I cannot figure out. However, it's nice to know that once I get this bit done, I'll basically be able to breeze through the rest of the lantern artifact with little trouble.
It was resolved that I continued to create a new face every time I use the extrude tool. I realize I need to be more careful using the tool, and I need to reassess how I'm looking at this artifact. Maybe it would be simpler to make a plane frame and then grafting separate objects onto it to get the desired outcome. I'll need to sit down and really review this within the week so I can move on with my designs. It's frustrating, but I'm up to the challenge. I need a better understanding.
