Taras Hryhorovych Shevchenko, also known as Kobzar Taras, or simply Kobzar, was a Ukrainian poet, writer, artist, public and political figure, folklorist and ethnographer. His literary heritage is regarded to be the foundation of modern Ukrainian literature and, to a large extent, the modern Ukrainian language, though this is different from the language of his poems.

100 років від дня народження Пауля Целана – найкращого ліричного європейського поета повоєнного часу

Пауль Целан (справжнє прізвище — Анчель) — єврейський поет і перекладач — народився 23 листопада 1920 року в Чернівцях у сім´ї небагатого комерсанта Лейба Анчеля.

In ancient times people had mid-winter festivals. They believed that the festivals would help the sun to return after the long winter. In the year 440, the Christian Church decided that the birth of Christ should be celebrated every year on 25 December. Christians started to include some of the mid-winter festival traditions in their Christmas celebrations, including decorating their homes with green plants. Today, a Christmas tree and other plants such as holly are still used to decorate many homes in December.  

Why do we celebrate English Language Day?

Why is English Language Day celebrated on 23 April? This day was chosen because it is thought to be Shakespeare's birthday, and the anniversary of his death. As well as being the English language's most famous playwright, Shakespeare also had a huge impact on modern-day English.

The International Day of Peace (or World Peace Day) celebrated annually on September 21 is devoted to strengthening the ideals of peace, both within and among all nations and peoples 

Multicultural Chernivtsi

This Ukrainian city is one of the most multicultural places I’ve yet encountered during my travels.Back in the Austrian Empire Chernivtsi was inhabited by Ukrainians, Romanians, Poles, Jews, Germans or Russians.They’ve created an unique blend that remnants of still can be seen and felt in Chernivtsi, even if these days the majority of the people are Ukrainians .When walking along Kobylyanska street look down as there’s the name “Chernivtsi” written on the pavement in 5 or 6 languages, showing how diverse the city was.

The history of International Children's Day dates back to the early 20th century. In 1925, the International Union for Child Welfare proposed the idea of a World Day for the Protection of Children to draw attention to the issues faced by children worldwide.

The first International Children's Day was celebrated on June 1, 1950. It was established by the United Nations (UN) to promote the well-being and rights of children. The date of June 1st was chosen as it coincided with the founding of the International Union for Child Welfare and many countries already had established traditions of celebrating children on or around this day.

У школах, університетах та інших освітніх установах у цей день організовують різноманітні заходи, флешмоби, мовні ігри, вікторини, а також інтерактивні семінари, де учасники можуть спробувати себе у вивченні нової мови або вдосконалити свої навички в уже знайомих.
