Valerie Number One

On occasion, Valerie gets in such a bad space, that she seems to transform into a different person.  I started asking to talk to the normal Valerie and after a bit she began to understand how different she was becoming.  She even was able to distinguish between different moods.  Soon these had numbers.  “I’d like to talk to Valerie Number One about this, please.”  Sometimes, if she is not too far gone, she can get some perspective and rally to answer normally.  Valerie is able to distinguish five or six different moods that are so dramatic that she seems like a different person.  They have numbers.  I don’t even want to talk about Valerie Number 4.

No, this does not encourage multiple personalities, but it does give a child the sense of the big feelings that can overwhelm us to the extent they make us seem (from the inside and the outside) like different people are showing up.
