Our leadership positions are elected to two-year terms. Elections are held in December.
Presides over all OLCEU meetings, enforces the OLCEU Constitution and Bylaws, is a member of all committees, appoints committees, and some financial responsibilities (signing treasury orders and countersigning checks).
Assists in the discharge of the President’s duties, attending all sessions of OLCEU. Assumes the President’s duties in case of the President’s absence, incapacity, or position becoming vacant.
Keeps a correct record of OLCEU proceedings. Signs all treasury orders. Manages all of OLCEU’s general correspondence. Maintains files on the current collective bargaining agreement, job classifications and rates, and any additional information gained through negotiations.
Manages OLCEU’s finances. Regularly reports finances to membership and Executive Board. Maintains and monitors OLCEU bank accounts, records, and property. Keeps membership records.
Chairs the Grievance Committee, and acts as Chief Steward. Handles grievances in the later steps of the grievance procedure, working with the stewards and with local union staff. Keeps membership advised as to the status of pending grievances, and carries out decisions concerning them.
Ensures that OLCEU communications reach members at worksite, and works with the Grievance Committee and the Executive Board in the handling of grievances and other union business for worksite.
Bargaining Committee
The members of the Bargaining Committee represent OLCEU in collective bargaining with OLC management.
Labor-Management Committee
The Labor-Management Committee consists of 3 Management representatives and 3 Union representatives. The purpose of the LMC is to foster improved communications between OLC and the Union and to discuss matters of mutual concern. Decisions and recommendations of the LMC are advisory only, except those in which the CBA gives the LMC the authority to make a final decision.
Matters of mutual concern include, but are not limited to: implementing new statutes and/or regulations directly affecting the collective bargaining agreement (CBA 6.4); implementing policies and/or procedures for office closures (CBA 6.4, 38.1); staff layoffs (CBA 6.4, 38.1); equal opportunity employment (CBA 6.4); affirmative action (CBA 6.4); allocation of additional funds and/or resources, (CBA 6.4); changing, combining, establishing, or discontinuing offices, jobs, and/or services, (CBA 6.4, 38.1); establishing priorities for staff training (CBA 32.1); consulting with OLC regarding changes in personnel policies or program, or anytime consultation with the Union is required under the CBA (CBA 2.1, 6.5); and, addressing formal grievance complaints where the Union is a grievant (CBA 37.2.1).
