Temporary employees are not members of the Union. Temporary employees include individuals who are hired for a specific duration of less than 12 months or who are hired to replace a regular employee on leave of absence. When temporary employees are employed by OLC for longer than 12 continuous months or 12 discontinuous months in a 2-year period, they become Union members. CBA 1.3.
Employees whose positions are grant-funded and are for 2 years or less, may be considered non-Union members if the grant-funding so requires. However, OLC has still committed under our CBA to attempt to negotiate salary and conditions for these employees in line with our CBA. If the grant-funding does not require their exclusion, these employees are Union members. CBA 1.4.
Temporary employees in non-supervisory roles are welcome to attend and participate in discussions at General Membership Meetings and meetings in their shop. They will not be able to vote on matters at those meetings.
