It’s population is 3.976 million (2016)!Located in a large coastal basin surrounded on three sides by mountains reaching up to and over 10,000 feet (3,000 m), Los Angeles covers an area of about 469 square miles (1,210 km 2). Wilshire Grand Centre

Its tallest building is the Wilshire Grand Centre and stands to about 335m and is a 1,100-foot (335.3 m) skyscraper in the Financial District of Downtown Los Angeles, California. It is the tallest building in Los Angeles, the tallest building in California and the tallest building in the west of the Mississippi River. Its height surpasses the U.S. Bank Tower by 82 FT (25 m).Its architectural style is Met modern style. The number of rooms are 900.The development of the complex is estimated to cost $1.2 billion. The original Wilshire Grand Hotel opened in 1952 as the Hotel Sattler, on the site of the new Wilshire Grand. In 1950, the City of Los Angeles issued the largest single building permit at the time for the construction of the hotel, which cost over $15 million. The hotel quickly became a landmark of downtown Los Angeles and over its 59-year lifespan attracted famous guests including President John F. Kennedy and Pope John Paul II.

The Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA)

The Los Angeles County Museum of Art is an art museum located on Wilshire Boulevard in the Miracle Mile vicinity of Los Angeles. The Los Angeles County Museum of Art was established in 1961. It is the largest art museum in the western United States of America. LACMA is on Museum Row, next to the La Brea Tar Pits. Its architectural styles are Modern architecture and Streamline Modern. Did you know: LACMA is governed by a Board of Trustees which sets policy and determines the museum's strategic direction. It holds more than 150,000 works spanning the history of art from ancient times to the present .Its collections include : Modern and Contemporary ,Art American and Latin American art, Asian art, Greek, Roman, ;Etruscan art, Islamic art, Decorative arts and design, Permanent art installations, Photography and Film. The museum , built in a style similar to Lincoln Centre and the Los Angeles Music Centre , consisted of three buildings : the Ahmanson Building, the Bing Centre and the Lytton Gallery (renamed the Frances and Armand Hammer Building in 1968). LACMA’s more than 120,000 objects are divided amongst its numerous departments by region, media and time period . In addition to art exhibits , the museum features film and concert series.

The Hollywood Sign

The Hollywood Sign is an American cultural icon and landmark located in Los Angeles, California. It is situated on Mount Lee, in the Hollywood Hills area of the Santa Monica Mountains. It is the most visited attraction in Los Angeles. Its population is estimated 2012 population: 16731. The sign was constructed in 1923 and originally read "HOLLYWOOD LAND." Its purpose was to advertise the name of a new set apart housing development in the hills above the Hollywood district of Los Angeles .The sign "HOLLYWOOD" is spelled out in 44-foot (13.4 m)-tall, white capital letters and is 352 feet (107.3 m) long. The sign has been a frequent target of pranks and vandalism across the decades, but it has since undergone restoration, including the installation of a security system to deter vandalism. The sign is protected and promoted by The Hollywood Sign Trust, a non-profit organization, while its site and the surrounding land are part of Griffith Park.


Universal City Walk

Universal City Walk are the entertainment and retail districts located next to the theme parks of Universal Parks & Resorts. It has 29 stores and services. Universal City Walk Hollywood is a three-block entertainment, dining, shopping promenade. It has more than 30 places to eat, a 19-screen movie theatre featuring Imax, seven night spots, indoor skydiving and more than 30 stores. Designed by Jon Jered, City Walk opened in May 1993 next to the Cineplex Odeon cinema. Planning done by Jerde Associates. City Walk's central plaza is topped by a 170-foot radial trellis designed and built by Pearce Structures (who also constructed Biosphere 2).

The most frightening damage

The most frightening damage took place on June 1, 2008 when a three alarm fire broke out on the back lot of Universal Studios. The fire started when a worker was using a blowtorch. The Los Angeles County Fire Department had reported that Brownstone Street, New York Street, New England Street, the King Kong attraction, some structures that make up Courthouse Square, and the Video Vault had burned down (not to be confused with the actual Film Vault, The Video Vault contains the duplicates of the films). Aerial news footage captured the Courthouse building surviving fire for the third time in its history, with only the west side of it being slightly charred. Over 516 firefighters from various local fire departments, as well as two helicopters dropping water, had responded to the fire. Fourteen firefighters and three Los Angeles County sheriffs' deputies sustained minor injuries. The fire was put out after twelve hours, during which time firefighters encountered low water pressure.
