"The Fours" from Amsterdam is a Rhythm and Jazz quintet playing their own original music in the styles of Latin Jazz, Brazilian, Funk, and Caribbean grooves. The members are: Leslie Lopez on bass, Olaf Keus on drums, Francisco Morales on Piano, Raya Hadzhieva on trumpet/flugelhorn, and Tycho Burgerhoff on percussion. This group was formed by top all-round musicians from New Cool Collective, Ronald Snijders Band, and Deborah Carter's Band.

"The Fours," an Amsterdam-based Rhythm and Jazz quintet, is dedicated to delivering captivating performances across various genres including Latin Jazz, Brazilian, Funk, and Caribbean grooves. Comprised of internationally acclaimed freelance musicians and close friends, their shared passion for playing together led them to form this band and create original music to share with their rapidly expanding audience. Their compositions are invigorating, revitalizing, and brimming with positive energy, characterized by robust, compelling rhythms, heartwarming melodies, and awe-inspiring solos.
Leslie Lopez (Puerto Rico)
Bassist, percussionist, componist en arrangeur heeft over de hele wereldgespeeld, opgenomen en getoured met vele internationale acts, waaronder Nueva Manteca, Cubop City Big Band en Conexión Latina. Hij is al 29 jaar lid van de internationale Nederlandse groep “New Cool Collective”. De band bracht in totaal 18 albums uit, won vele prijzen waaronder een Edison en een Gouden Kalf. Hij heeft lesgegeven aan conservatoria in Europa, Latijns-Amerika en Azië en produceert zijn eigen muziek. Zijn eigen album “Bomba Moderna” is een masterpiece.
Raya Hadzhieva is een Bulgaarse trompettiste en muziekproducent gevestigd in Amsterdam. In 2009 behaalde ze haar masterdiploma in jazztrompet en sindsdien heeft ze zich bewezen als een bekwaam en veelzijdig instrumentalist. Ze heeft opgetreden op internationale podia en festivals in diverse genres, van jazz tot wereldmuziek en pop. In 2019 startte Raya Hadzhieva twee creatieve projecten met vocalisten, waarvoor ze de muziek arrangeert en produceert: Desperate Daughters en Mermaid Radio. Ze is het nieuwe lid van The Fours en geeft de band een unieke uitstraling en prachtige aanvulling. Raya is voortdurend op zoek naar authenticiteit en vrijheid van expressie, en staat altijd open voor het verkennen van nieuwe muzikale wegen.
Francisco Morales op Piano Geboren in Caracas en opgegroeid in Zulia, ontdekte Francisco Morales al vroeg zijn muzikale talent. Op 9-jarige leeftijd begon zijn muzikale reis. Tegen zijn 15e speelde en toerde hij met grote Venezolaanse artiesten.Hij werd huispianist in de legendarische Juan Sebastian Bar in Caracas. De rijke traditie van Venezolaanse volksmuziek, zoals Joropo in 6/8, vormde zijn stijl.
In 2016 verscheen zijn debuutalbum, een grensverleggende fusie van genres. Francisco speelt in Nederland met Lucas van Merwijk’s Music Machine. Daarnaast treedt hij regelmatig op in Jazz Café Alto met The fours.
Olaf Keus (Nederland)
Master op drums in zijn favorieten stijlen jazz, Latin, Braziliaans en funk en speelt percussie-instrumenten uit Zuid-Amerika en Afrika. Hij is thuis in vele stijlen en laat dit horen met o.a. Mike Dell Ferro, Ronald Snijders en Efraïm Trujillo. Olaf speelt met veel Braziliaanse artiesten zoals Ceumar en Celio Roberto Silva. Olaf en de Indonesische pianiste Nita Aartsen touren al enige jaren samen door Azië en Europa. Hij is drum en ensemble leraar aan de Muziekschool Amsterdam en geeft Body percussie lessen aan het Amsterdamse Conservatorium.
Tycho Burgerhof (Nederland) op Conga's en Percussie ,Tycho begon toen hij jong was met West-Afrikaanse percussie (djembe, dundun, krin) om vervolgens de crossover naar Latin muziek te maken. Met het latin jeugdorkest van de Amsterdamse Muziekschool won hij meerdere keren de Amsterdamse Muziekscholen Prijs en werd het orkest geselecteerd voor het European Youth Music Festival in Hongarije. Hij heeft met verschilende salsa-, latin-, jazz- en folkbands door Europa getourd en op grote festivals gestaan zoals Oerol, North Sea Jazz Festival en Zwarte Cross.

Leslie Lopez, a bassist, percussionist, and arranger from Puerto Rico, has played, recorded, and toured worldwide with numerous international acts, including Nueva Manteca, Cubop City Big Band, and Conexión Latina. For 29 years, Leslie has been a member of the international Dutch group "New Cool Collective," which has released 18 albums and received various awards, including an Edison and a Golden Calf. Leslie also produces his own music and teaches at conservatories in Europe, Latin America, and Asia.
Raya Hadzhieva is a Bulgarian trumpet player and music producer based in Amsterdam. In 2009 she obtained her master's degree in jazz trumpet and since then she has proven herself to be a skilled and versatile instrumentalist. She has performed on international stages and festivals in various genres, from jazz to world music and pop. In 2019 Raya Hadzhieva started two creative projects with vocalists, for which she arranges and produces the music: Desperate Daughters and Mermaid Radio. She is the new member of The Fours and brings a unique look and wonderful addition to the band. Raya is constantly looking for authenticity and freedom of expression, and is always open to exploring new musical avenues.
Francisco Morales on Piano Born in Caracas and raised in Zulia, Francisco Morales discovered his musical talent early on. His musical journey began at the age of 9. By 15, he was playing and touring with major Venezuelan artists. He became the house pianist at the legendary Juan Sebastian Bar in Caracas. The rich tradition of Venezuelan folk music, such as Joropo in 6/8, shaped his style. In 2016, his debut album, a groundbreaking fusion of genres, was released. Francisco performs in the Netherlands with Lucas van Merwijk's Music Machine. He also regularly performs at Jazz Café Alto with The Fours.
Olaf Keus, a master drummer from the Netherlands, specializes in jazz, Latin, Brazilian, and funk styles and plays percussion instruments from South America and Africa. Olaf has worked with numerous musicians, including Mike Dell Ferro, Ronald Snijders, Efraïm Trujillo, and Leslie Lopez, and has played with many Brazilian artists such as Ceumar and Celio Roberto Silva. Olaf and Indonesian pianist Nita Aartsen have been touring Asia and Europe together for several years. Olaf is also a drum and ensemble teacher at the Muziekschool Amsterdam and provides body percussion lessons at the Amsterdam Conservatory.
Tycho Burgerhof (Netherlands) on Congas and Percussion Tycho started playing West African percussion (djembe, dundun, krin) when he was young and then made the crossover to Latin music. With the latin youth orchestra of the Amsterdam Music School, he won the Amsterdam Music Schools Prize several times and the orchestra was selected for the European Youth Music Festival in Hungary. He has toured Europe with various salsa, latin, jazz and folk bands and played at major festivals such as Oerol, North Sea Jazz Festival and Zwarte Cross.
