Electoral Debrief

Who won? What Happened?

After the election day, the results of Oklahoma District 5's candidate were revealed. Bice won by 4.2%, against the predictions we had. What was especially against our predictions was that we thought that if Biden was ahead, Horn would win because of the sway of opinions due to the vote. The opposite happened, because currently Biden is ahead of Trump but Bice won against Horn.

The primary reason that Bice won against Horn was because Horn was the first democrat in Oklahoma after 40 years of republicans. In a New York Times article it states, "The victory of Ms. Bice, 46, returned the Fifth District to Republicans, who had held it for more than 40 years before Ms. Horn’s stunning upset in 2018, which made her the lone Democrat representing the state in Congress."

Stephanie Bice showed her support for Affordable Care Act and education in the state because people wanted her to secure her position as republican. Bice also had to reannounce her policies from 2018 when she was district representative.

Bice also barely won in 2018, she only won by 2 points. When she tried for reelection she had to extremely enforce what she was supporting. Republicans saw Bice as the primary opportunity to flip the election in Trump's favor.
