No doubt, it is uncertain whether strangers can ‘click’ or not. It takes two hands to clap - we must recognise that both parties must be open and optimistic towards each other’s presence. Simply speaking, if Singapore claims herself to be a multiracial and multicultural nation, Singaporeans themselves must first be inclusive and welcoming to foreigners entering their state of land. Yet, a sizable number of Singaporeans still think in terms of "us versus them" rather than viewing migrants as a potential strength for Singapore. [2]

Need for cognition refers to the tendency to think carefully and fully about our experiences, including the social situations we encounter (Cacioppo & Petty, 1982). Furthermore, with the constant influx of foreigners entering Singapore due to social and economic needs, it is imperative that foreigners must be well integrated by locals, or else there would be a constant tension and ‘foreign’ behaviour towards one another, lowering the standard of living for both parties.
With locals & foreigners being more accepting of one another, I believe that it will benefit their standard of living, develop our economy and positive social culture.
a) Online Questionnaire to monitor the thoughts of the foreign workers in our country, depending on his/her field of work. This will broaden the surveillance of the foreign worker's living condition and working condition. As some workers may be apprehensive to approach for help (prior happenings in articles), this app will enable all of them to safely convey their feelings to their employment companies. Not only will this oversee the work progress of the employee, it will also ensure that the quality of life & welfare of the foreigner is not compromised despite work being the purpose of his/her visit.
b) Forum Platform for them to share & express their opinions with other common people who are foreigners too. By doing so, it enables them to feel a sense of homeliness and that they are not alone. Similar to Twitter, these foreigners will have a common ground for them to interact with people that have similar background as them, taking away their wistfulness while being overseas.
c) Map Directory on the Workplace Facilities specially built for Foreigners to enjoy and utilize. This will increase the outreach level of these facilities and hence, maximize the effectiveness of the objectives of these facilities on our foreigners.
The above is in alignment with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (8, 10, 11) as listed in the image attached below.

This solution serves to provide the foreigners with a background setting of Singapore & to oversee the integration process on a micro-scale, such that each foreigner is being treasured & entitled with privileges before starting their term of work.
Every foreign worker that works in Singapore for the future years (min. 3 years) must fulfill the following requirements:
a) Entitlement of Complimentary Tour around Singapore - featuring the landmarks of Singapore while introducing our culture & heritage. This allows them to fully utilize the resources & facilities around them (not just the Migrant Workers' Centre). On their own discretion, they may then be encouraged to explore Singapore during their free time, further enhancing their sense of belonging to Singapore.
b) Singapore Package - containing goodies & brochures stating the key locations for foreigners to explore our Singaporean culture & heritage such as our local delicacies & museums respectively.
c) Portable Bag -
d) Migrant Worker Membership Card - through liaising with various key personnel from the Food & Beverage industry, migrant workers will be able to enjoy a 3% discount off their food (slightly lower than Pioneer Generation Package). On top of that, they can use this card at the local mini-marts to accumulate points in exchange for a free meal.
*if possible, mandatory
*At the moment, Ministry of Manpower has put in place a "Settling-in Programme (SIP) for Work Permit Holders in Construction Sector". However, IMO, it lacks the interaction between homely Singaporeans & fresh foreigners, which will reinforce the authenticity of our local culture. This newsletter will be complimentary & issued out once a quarter of a year.
This physical handout will be a good reference material for people of all ages (parents, kids, elderly) to read & put themselves in the shoes of the FDW in their own imaginative minds. This will improve the general knowledge of our future leaders of Singapore while opening up the lives of the FDW to all Singaporeans & fostering a society of love & gratitude.
To better appeal to audiences from all parts of Singapore, it will be categorized according to the districts of Singapore - N S E W Central - with tabs sticking out of the right side of the book. Hence being able to spot the FDW mentioned in the newsletter in reality.
We could liaise with the Straits Times News to incorporate our newsletter into their daily morning distribution so as to increase our outreach.
With the surge in dependency on technology over the course of time, inter-personal connection sometimes not just stems from human interaction, but also virtual. Although many non-governmental organisations like Migrant Workers' Centre have this in place, my Instagram page will involve Promo Codes where locals can enjoy discounts through answering short-structured / MCQ posted on my account weekly.
