Alabama is a state in the southeastern region of USA.
On 14 May 2019, Alabama Senate has since implemented a ban after Governor Kay Ivey (member of Republican party) signed into law the most restrictive abortion bill in the country. Furthermore, citizens have pointed out the lack of exceptions for girls impregnated by rape or incest,
This anti-abortion ban has caught the attention of many (both Republicans & Democrats) and many have casted their views on this policy. According to a Gallup Poll, 77% of Americans think that abortion should be legal in cases of incest or rape.
Challenge the Roe v. Wade Court Case in 1973, this ban attempted to balance the state's distinct compelling interests in the health of pregnant women and in the potential life of fetuses. Since then, it provides a fundamental "right to privacy" that protects a pregnant woman's liberty to choose whether or not to have an abortion.
Hence, such a ban has backed assault on the rights of women to control their own bodies. In the viewpoint of the supporters of the Alabama ban, they said the right to life of the fetus transcended other rights, which is an idea they would like tested at the Supreme Court.
Such a ban outlaws abortions nearly entirely and challenges the controversy between the rights of a pregnant women and the rights of the zygote formed in her body.
