We pursue catalytic reaction chemistry aimed at creating substances that lie “in-between” the natural and the artificial — above all, next-generation biocompatible materials known as proteomimetics. More recently, we have also been focusing on the development and societal implementation of inverse (N-to-C) peptide synthesis, which minimizes the use of protecting groups.

Building on tryptophan/tyrosine-selective protein modification and specialty peptide manufacturing, we develop biomaterials with new functions, including site-selective antibody–drug conjugates, selective labeling of exosome surfaces, gold-cluster-labeled antibodies, and functional peptides.
