On 24 September 2025, our team took part in Scientists’ Night at the Estonian University of Life Sciences (EMU). The representatives of our group were PhD students: Evgeniy Brik and Chanaka Gedara, who prepared and carried out a workshop for the visitors.
In their presentation, they explained that the skin is the largest organ in the human body. It plays a vital role in keeping the inside of our body warm and serves as protection against viruses, bacteria, and fungi.
During the workshop, participants had the opportunity to use a microscope to take a closer look at the skin and to work with a sun simulator in order to investigate how the skin senses temperature changes and reacts to sunlight. The session also highlighted why the household chemicals that are commonly used to maintain cleanliness can, at the same time, become an insidious enemy to the health of our skin.
Through these activities, the workshop demonstrated both the protective functions of the skin and the everyday factors that can influence its condition.
