Collaborate with your artist
Share ideas between the two of you, look at the work in progress bits that your partner shares, and share progress on the writing - this is a collaboration!
Finish a standalone fic of minimum 5000 words, inspired by the artwork you selected, and based on the collaboration with your artist.

Will I be guaranteed an art piece if I sign up as a writer?
Short answer: No. Due to supply and demand and the limited number of art available, unfortunately not everyone will get assigned an art piece. Consider signing up as a pinch-hitter to increase your chances!
Longer answer: In a perfect world, everyone who has signed up would get to work on an art piece. However, this is not a perfect world. Some writers sign up and decide none of the submitted art spark creativity for them, or that only a few art pieces call to them. If the writer doesn't get those at the initial claims, they might choose not to participate in the reverse bang at all. Some art pieces will, in turn, only call to certain writers and are harder to match. In this case, we allow writers who have already claimed one piece to grab another - if they feel confident that they can manage the additional workload. Collaborations take work, and it's important that each collab gets enough time and attention to shine.
Can I write a crossover?
As long as your piece centers around OFMD characters, crossovers are welcome! Check with your artist to ensure that this aligns with their preferences.
I don't have an AO3 account - can I still sign up?
Yes! Reach out to the mods via email and we'll find an invite for you before posting.
Is staggered posting allowed?
Yes! As long as your work is posted from July 1st-July 31st, you can post however you want. Your work must be 100% completed by July 31st to be added to the collection.
Am I allowed to create a continuation of an existing fic of mine?
That depends on a few things -
What does your artist think? Don't steamroll them, this is a reverse bang, their idea must be respected.
Can the RBB fic be read as a standalone work? If a reader needs to have knowledge of the existing fic in order for the RBB fic to make sense, it's not allowed.
Can I continue the story after the RBB deadline?
Yes - but the RBB work that you submit must be a full story in and of itself. You're welcome to expand on it with a sequel afterwards, but it must be a standalone work.
What if I don’t finish on time?
If you know you aren’t going to finish on time but still want to participate in the bang and finish your piece, please send a message to the mods and an extension will be discussed.
If you need to drop out for any reason, please let us know right away. Don’t feel guilty when you need to drop out - we understand life happens.
Note that ghosting your collaboration partner or neglecting to post your finished work will have consequences for your participation in future events. This is supposed to be fun for everyone, and getting ghosted is the opposite of fun. Ghosting will not be tolerated and will get you banned from future events.
Can I share snips of my story prior to the posting date?
Yes! You can share small snips of your work as long as it is not the full, complete piece. Feel free to share WIPs on social media or in Discord servers/chats. We encourage you to check with your artist to ensure that they are okay with sharing parts of the story prior to the posting date. Please do not share any of your artist's work publicly without their permission. Please tag us on Bluesky and/or Tumblr and use the hashtag #OFMDReverseBang when sharing snips!
