Example of Attribution of Images

Let us explore the basics for attributing images by first taking a look at what Creative Commons suggests here .

Lets expand this a bit and make sure we fully understand our responsibilities for attribution. It can become more challenging but we are going to cover the basics, where all necessary information is available.

It is considered good "netiquette" to provide attribution even for Creative Commons Zero-licensed material, although you are not legally required to do so.

For the sake of clean visual design, use the option to hyperlink words or phrases instead of posting entire links.

Example one: Wikipedia is a great source for ideas.

Example two: https://www.wikipedia.org/ is a great source for ideas.

Example two, while accurate, does not have the polished appeal of example one.

Title : This is the title provided by the original author.

Author : The original author. This is an excellent opportunity to link to his/her/other website, profile page, etc.

Source : This is where we will link to the original file we are using or have modified.

License : link to license deed on Creative Commons website (www.creativecommons.org)

As Creative Commons itself explains, "There is no one right way; just make sure your attribution is reasonable and suited to the medium you're working with. That being said, you still have to include attribution requirements somehow, even if it's just a link to an About page that has that info. (More on different mediums below.)"Â
