The “Rolling Thunder” Armed Drill Team performs highly polished, precise, and sharp military drill movements using replica rifles. The team competes in four distinct areas: Inspection, Regulation, Exhibition, and Color Guard. The Exhibition phase is particularly challenging, as it involves creating and performing a unique routine that incorporates a variety of military-style movements. Outstanding individual and team performances are rewarded with trophies and honors, recognizing the dedication and hard work of our cadets.

The “Mighty Panthers” Unarmed Drill Team showcases sharp, crisp, and precise drill movements, using both their arms and legs—most importantly, producing the right cadence and noise. The team competes in four phases: Inspection, Regulation, Exhibition, and Color Guard at local schools and at the Nationals competition in Daytona, Florida. As a team member, you will develop valuable leadership skills, discipline, and Air Force knowledge, while creating lasting memories and friendships.

The Physical Training (PT) Team engages in a diverse range of calisthenic and CrossFit workouts designed to build and enhance physical fitness, endurance, strength, and mental toughness. The PT team competes in various events, including relay races, stationary workouts, and challenging obstacle courses, pushing cadets to their limits and fostering both physical and mental growth.

The Panther Crew is a high-energy, physical training-based spirit squad that supports our O’Connor football team at every home game. Positioned on the sidelines, the team energizes the crowd by running flags and performing push-ups each time our team scores. While the role is physically demanding, it’s also an incredibly rewarding and fun experience that cadets cherish—and one they always look forward to again once the football season begins.

The Honor Guard holds the distinguished privilege of performing at school and community ceremonies. The team is responsible for presenting the colors at key public events, including football games, award ceremonies, and veterans’ ceremonies. In addition, the Honor Guard includes the Saber Guard, which performs ceremonial presentations at significant occasions such as OHS Homecoming, the JROTC Military Ball, and other formal events. This team represents the highest level of respect, precision, and dedication.

The Marksmanship Team promotes Three-Position Air Rifle shooting as a premier youth competition, providing cadets with the equipment and training necessary to excel. All equipment and materials are handled with the utmost care and safety under strict supervision. To join, cadets must achieve a perfect score on the safety exam, followed by a tryout at the range. Due to limited space and equipment, the team is capped at 10 members each year.

The Cyber Patriot Team collaborates to identify and resolve security vulnerabilities within virtual computer networks. Competing globally, teams strive to build the most secure systems in the shortest time. With guidance from mentors in the military and local industries, cadets receive hands-on training in network security. No prior knowledge or experience is required to join—the team will teach you the fundamentals of Information Technology and cyber security, providing a valuable learning experience in a rapidly growing field.

The Awareness Presentation Team (APT) focuses on raising awareness about important issues that students may face, such as bullying, drug and alcohol abuse, and other forms of violence. Cadets are trained to approach these sensitive topics and share resources with younger students, helping them understand how to address and resolve conflicts effectively. The team’s goal is to ensure that those in need of support know where to turn for help and how to cope with challenging situations.
The Academic Bowl Team competes in a series of challenging tests covering subjects such as mathematics, grammar, current events, JROTC knowledge, and reading comprehension. Comprising six cadets, the team competes in national online competitions against other corps. Beyond the excitement of competition, the Academic Bowl also provides a valuable learning and tutoring experience, helping cadets sharpen their knowledge and skills in a supportive and engaging environment.

Named after the site of the first sustained, powered flight, the Kitty Hawk Honor Society (KHHS) is the academic honor society of JROTC, consisting of sophomores, juniors, and seniors. The mission of KHHS is to promote academic excellence and service within the corps and the community. Members tutor fellow cadets, help develop organizational skills, support local elementary and middle schools in academic events (such as Spelling Bees, Science Fairs, and STEM activities), and mentor younger students.
