Proof Statement Evaluate Factors that Impact Public Health
My three assignments demonstrate my ability to assess the factors influencing public health by applying rigorous, context-appropriate research and evaluation methods.
Assignment 1: Research Project on Gender Differences in Nutrition
For this project, I designed and implemented a cross-sectional survey among BYU-Idaho students to identify disparities in knowledge, dietary habits, and perceived barriers. The methods, including sampling, a structured questionnaire, and comparative statistical analysis, are described in a reproducible manner. The evaluation revealed that cost, taste, and convenience were the main barriers, with variations between genders. I recommended implementing gender-sensitive interventions and improving access to healthy foods on campus to address these behavioral determinants.
Assignment 2: Evaluation of a Sexual and Reproductive Health Program in Côte d'Ivoire
I evaluated this program using a reproducible mixed-methods approach, combining the analysis of quantitative monitoring data (service utilization) with qualitative interviews conducted with beneficiaries and providers. This method made it possible to measure effectiveness while understanding implementation processes. The results highlighted the positive impact of "safe spaces" while identifying the persistence of stigma as a major barrier to service uptake. My recommendations therefore focused on systematically strengthening these spaces and implementing community awareness campaigns to reduce stigma.
Assignment 3: Indoor Air Quality Audit for the Hart Building
This audit was based on standardized and reproducible environmental sampling methods, including continuous CO₂ measurements and mold sampling according to established protocols. The analysis of this objective data diagnosed respiratory health risks linked to inadequate ventilation and the presence of biological contaminants. I consequently recommended the installation of controlled mechanical ventilation systems and the immediate remediation of mold-contaminated areas, prioritizing solutions that were technically and financially feasible for the organization.
Through these projects, I demonstrate a holistic understanding of public health assessment. I am skilled at adapting diverse methodological tools surveys, statistical analysis, interviews, environmental measurements to produce credible evidence and formulate actionable recommendations that protect and promote population health.
