Welcome to the Organelle Biology and Cellular Ageing Laboratory. Our research focuses on understanding how cells maintain their internal organization through membrane-bound compartments called organelles, each with distinct structures and functions. The formation and turnover of these organelles are tightly regulated, and their dysfunction is implicated in a variety of diseases, including neurodegeneration, cancer, diabetes, and rare genetic disorders. Despite their importance, the molecular mechanisms underlying organelle dysfunction remain poorly understood. We investigate critical questions related to organelle biogenesis (particularly peroxisomes), mitochondrial dysfunction in disease contexts, and how alterations in organelles contribute to ageing. To address these, we use an integrated approach involving genetic, molecular, biochemical, and microscopy-based techniques, with yeast as our primary model system.
