Station Rotation Model and Blended Learning During Hybrid Teaching

What is the Station Rotation Model?

Station Rotation allows for students to move through a set of stations on a fixed schedule.

Before you begin with the Station-Rotation Model, be sure to consider:
  • What is your goal when creating stations in your classroom?
  • How do you anticipate the climate to shift as a result of stations?
  • What will students activley be doing at each station?
  • How will you ensure you are meeting your learning objectives while students are at these stations?

Benefits of station rotation model:

  • frees the teacher to work with small groups of students

  • makes differentiating instruction more manageable

  • creates smaller learning communities

  • encourages communication and collaboration amongst students

  • shifts the focus from the teacher to the learners

Designing Station Rotation with Physical Distancing in Mind:

  • Unlike traditional station rotation where the students move from station to station, the teacher will move from station to station.

  • Consider setting your desks up in a way that encourages collaboration and communication with respect to being 6 feet apart. Rows, at times, create a less inviting and engaging environment. How might you create a physically distanced yet socially connected classroom? Could you place desks in a semi circle? Could you somehow allow for students to better face each other?
