My mission is to continue providing quality music instruction to as many students as possible without compromising anyone's health or safety.
I feel this is very doable by offering flexible lesson options whether it be in-person, online or a combination of both, in addition to everybody in our community making a sincere effort to understand, follow and stay up-to-date with all safety recommendations and mandates.
I understand that there are many different views and opinions regarding the response to the pandemic as well as many different comfort levels. My preference is to err on the side of caution, and I would like to encourage everyone to remain as vigilant as possible as we continue to navigate this difficult and ongoing situation.
I will continue to monitor the guidelines put in place by our Public Health Guidelines and adjust protocols and policies accordingly.
Please review the safety plan as outlined below. Your decision to participate in music lessons at this time will be greatly appreciated, as will your understanding and cooperation.
COVID-19 Screening Tool
Please familiarize yourself with the following online Covid-19 screening tool. I ask that you review it on a weekly basis before attending your lessons and follow the advice it provides about when to self-isolate and/or get tested for Covid-19.
Covid-19 Screening Tool link: https://covidassessment.nlchi.nl.ca/
I may also ask students a few basic questions before the start of each lesson to help ensure the lesson can be conducted safely.
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
Based on the current low prevalence of COVID-19 in Newfoundland and Labrador, and based on the current provincial guidelines, masks are not required while at the studio.
Some students may choose to wear masks at all times. If this is something you would like to discuss, please feel free to contact me
There will be a clear physical barrier present at all times in the studio separating the student from myself.
Limited Washroom Usage
Washroom use will be unavailable for students at this time. Students and parents should use their own washroom before coming to the studio. Everyone will be permitted to use the washroom facilities when absolutely needed and in cases of emergency.
Hand Sanitizer and Enhanced Cleaning Protocols
Hand sanitizer will be supplied in the studio and waiting area. Students must use sanitizer before each lesson.
I will thoroughly wipe down anything used by students between each lesson including the piano, writing utensils, music stand, desk and chair. I am unable to continuously wipe down the waiting area and I ask those that use it to be respectful and cautious of this.
Stay Home Policy
I ask that you stay home if you are sick, if you're living with someone who is sick and waiting to get tested, or if you have been in contact with someone who has tested positive for Covid-19. If you show up for lessons under any of these circumstances, you will be immediately sent home.
Please understand that when someone does not adhere to this policy it creates a very difficult and stressful situation for everyone involved. I am taking this seriously and kindly ask that everyone else does too.
If you or your child can not attend in person, there will be the option in most cases to still take an online lesson at your scheduled time so you do not miss your lesson.
For students’ homework assignments, I will use Google classroom rather than writing in dictation or exercise books. I will not be handling any personal effects of my students, musical or other.
Studio copies of lesson books will not be available. It is expected that students will bring their books and materials to every lesson. If a student comes without their books, I will proceed with the lesson teaching alternate material such as technique, theory, ear training, etc.
I will conduct the lesson with minimum 6 feet distance between myself and the student. Students will have a separate piano that I will not use, except to clean in between lessons.
I will be offering lessons both online and in-person.
The studio has been equipped with good quality equipment such as a computer, large monitor, camera(s), and speakers. This new equipment will enable me to teach any lesson format required during a student's normal schedule and has the potential to be used to enhance the quality of their in-person lessons.
Lessons can be taught online according to individual student preferences or when needed due to isolation requirements.
