Course Description

Students registered in the Regular Voice Program, aged 7 years to adult, will begin their vocal training with the FULL VOICE™ Workbook Series for all beginner vocalists.

The FULL VOICE™ Workbook Series is a music lesson curriculum for the young vocal student that assists in the development of healthy vocal technique, strong vocal abilities and musicianship. This workbook series was developed for vocal students working with a vocal teacher in private instruction.

Learning to sing properly is a very important aspect of vocal training. New students will learn essential basics of singing such as: proper singing posture, proper breathing techniques and how to take care of your voice.

Together, we will choose the songs you would like to sing and which are best suited for your unique voice and level of development. As well, using the FULL VOICE™ Workbook Series your lessons will also include Technical Exercises, Sight Singing, Ear Training and Theory.

Full Voice Program

The FULL VOICE™ Workbook Series has been developed without a bias toward any one kind of music. It is a workbook that breaks down basic musical concepts to develop strong vocal ability and music reading skills.

Researched and developed for singers who are studying with a vocal teacher, the FULL VOICE™ Workbook Series organizes technical, ear training, sight singing, music theory and performance exercises in concise weekly lessons.

All lessons have been developed to be flexible to the individual teacher and student. Most lessons can be completed in 10 to 15 minutes and leave ample time for repertoire development.

This program was designed for school aged students and adults who are working with a teacher and will compliment any private vocal lesson.

Every workbook includes:

• Technical Exercises – you will be introduced to many different and challenging exercises to develop breath control, range and agility.

• Sight Singing – utilizing the tonic sol-fa method of sight reading each level introduces new keys, time signatures and rhythmic challenges. Tonic Sol-fa is an amazing tool for singers of all ages. Using the hand signs is a fun game for young singers. Tonic Sol-fa aids in developing confidence and independence without relying on the piano (or any other instrument or vocalist) for assistance.

• Ear Training – the vocal student is challenged with listening skill activities that focus on singing and identifying intervals, chords and scales.

• Theory – every workbook includes theory assignments and graded reviews to assist in the development of musicianship.

• Performance – performance related activities and assessments are found in each workbook. These provide useful feedback for students, teachers and parents.

• Suitability – this program is appropriate for students age 7 to adult.

• Duration – 30, 45 or 60 minute lesson once per week; average 4 lessons per month.

• Regular Term – 39 weeks; from September to June; follows the public school calendar

• Book Fee – course books are not included and are purchased as required. Average cost is approximately $25.00 per year but will vary depending on the program and grade level.

• Family Lesson Discount – when 2 or more immediate family members are registered for lessons, a monthly lesson discount will be applied to each additional student. Please ask for details.

There are two main curriculum currently used in the study of piano at Oake Music Studio. These are Piano Adventures® method by Faber and Celebration Series Perspectives®, the official curriculum of The Royal Conservatory of Music. These popular and proven programs offer students the very best in piano training.

The Royal Conservatory of Music curriculum is recognized by the Newfoundland Department of Education. Newfoundland high school students in grades 11 and 12 who meet the grade and exam requirements are eligible to receive high school credits.

Lesson Details

• Suitability – this program is appropriate for students age 7 to adult.

• Duration – 30, 45 or 60 minute lesson once per week; average 4 lessons per month.

• Regular Term – 39 weeks; from September to June; follows the public school calendar

• Book Fee – course books are not included and are purchased as required. Average cost is approximately $25.00-$50.00 per year but will vary depending on the program and grade level.

• Practice Instrument – a suitable practice instrument is required at home.

• Family Lesson Discount – when 2 or more immediate family members are registered for lessons, a monthly lesson discount will be applied to each additional student. Please ask for details.

Beginner & Early Years

Most beginner students between 7 and 12 years old, will begin their study of the piano with the Piano Adventures® Primer Level.

Piano students will enjoy this creative and motivational instruction method. With four books available at each level (Lesson, Theory, Performance, Technique & Artistry) students will follow a step by step approach to learning the piano.

Using a wide range of styles, the material is organized into units which represent the major concepts and skills of piano playing. As each unit is completed, students will advance to new material as well as continue to reinforce previously learned concepts and skills. Through this systematic approach students will develop a strong foundation in reading music, understanding music theory and developing proper playing skills.

Teens & Adults can begin their studies with the Accelerated Piano Adventures® for the Older Beginner. This is an accelerated program written for the older beginner. This method book covers all the material in both the Primer Level and Level One of the basic Piano Adventures® method.

Royal Conservatory of Music

This modern piano teaching method is the most widely used and recognized piano music program in Canada. It is the series of choice for teachers and students seeking a truly enriched learning experience.

Celebration Series Perspectives® is a comprehensive and progressive series featuring an outstanding selection of piano literature with supporting teaching materials. With pieces ranging from the Baroque era to present day, the repertoire books are the ultimate resource for examinations, recitals, festivals, competitions, auditions and for enjoyment.

The Royal Conservatory of Music curriculum is recognized by the Newfoundland Department of Education. Newfoundland high school students in grades 11 and 12 who meet the grade and exam requirements are eligible to receive credits for Applied Music 2296 and Applied Music 3296.
