MEN

WOMEN

In years 2022 and 2023 we returned to normal and had respective seasons at their correct times of the year. The men finished 2nd both years to Simi Valley again and we continue to fight hard to improve. The women continue to be strong as we enjoyed our 4th straight, undefeated and untied, season. Our current win streak dates back to 2019 and stands at 50. We sent Charissa off to play for Harvard in '22 and Derica to D3 National Champion Emory in '23 and this year we have Lily going to play for D1 St. John's University in New York. This year we also lost Megan to Tulane and Catherine to USC and we wish them all well. We set another record in the county this year. After holding the record with 3 players on the All-County team the past 2 years, we had all 6 starters earn All-County status in '23 with Lily being the county MVP, Nina, Joanna and Sailor honored with first team standing and Madeleine and Bianca earning 2nd team honors.

In the years 2020 and 2021 we did get seasons in for both genders. It was a challenge at times with all sports going at the same time but the players persevered and we had successful, if short and time-constricted, seasons. The men finished 2nd in league to Simi Valley as we lost twice to them, both by less than 10 strokes. Darren, who leaves us to continue his education and play for UC Davis was our leader, highlighted by a nice -5, 67 in the last round of league finals. We also bid farewell and best wishes to Nicolai and Hunter as they move on to college. The women's team turned out to be the story of the season as they went through the season without a loss or tie to become Coastal Canyon League Champions as Charissa and Derica both shot -3, 69 in the final round of league finals. We then moved on to become Oak Park's first CIF Champions in women's golf. We also said goodbye to our senior captain, Catherine, as well as Bella and Eliana as they move on to college with bright futures.

We are still under severe restrictions but it is looking more and more likely we will have a men's and women's season this spring. It will probably be league matches and finals only as our inability to transport players this year and losing our fundraising tournament two years now has left us with few options. That said, we expect to field very competitive teams in both genders and we will have as much fun as Covid allows us.

We are moving forward with our plans for a winning women's season while still regretting that we lost the men's season due to the Coronavirus pandemic. Like America, we expect to be back stronger and better than before, beginning with the women's season in August. We wish our seniors, Bodia on the women's team and Kelly and Kyle from the men's team, success as they venture out of the Oak Park bubble to college.

Oak Park High School is a member of the Coastal Canyon League and our golf teams compete at the varsity level against  Camarillo, Moorpark, Royal and Simi Valley. Women's golf is a fall sport competing from August through October and Men's golf is a spring sport with a season from February into May.

National Qualifier

Congratulations to Derica Chiu and Charissa Shang for qualifying for the 2022 USGA Junior Girl's Championship, to be held at The Club at Olde Stone in Bowling Green, KY in July of '22. Such a feat to have one team member qualify for a national USGA event and we're beyond proud for having two team members qualify for this fine test of golf. Derica qualified in McKinney, Tx while Charissa was in Merced, Ca.

College Signing

Congratulations to Charissa Shang signing with Harvard University to continue her education and golf. Harvard has a competitive Ivy League program and is a fine institution and we expect Charissa to excel in the classroom and on the course.

College Signing

Congratulations to Darren Chiu for signing with University of California at Davis to continue his education and golf. Davis is a competitive D1 program and we expect Darren to excel in the classroom and on the course.

College Signing

Congratulations to Kelly Dobson for signing with Lewis University in Illinois after his senior season at OPHS. Lewis is a fine D2 program where I'm sure Kelly will prosper on the course as well as the classroom.
