Literacy and numeracy

Functional literacy and languages are so closely linked that it is difficult NOT to teach functional literacy when you step into your French classroom. However, many schools are currently putting an extra focus on literacy and numeracy following the MoE changes to the curriculum and subsequently the introduction of new literacy and numeracy Achievement Standards.

While you might think that languages do not contribute very much to developing our students' numeracy skills, the MoE produced a couple of documents that show where we do anyway. Exploring this document might help you to make yourself and your learners more aware of the power of French in this regard.
