Introducing “The A-STEM guide to the “Road that Led to Somewhere”. In his book, Dr. Walls describes his ancestors’ journey to freedom on the Underground Railroad. A Teacher’s Guide for using the text in ELA classes has already been published. Our team has created the “A-STEM guide” to help teachers utilize the text in STEM classrooms. We call our guide the Affective or A-STEM guide because we utilize the dual objective to incorporate social and emotional learning alongside the content. Our guide will help teachers promote diversity, equity, and inclusion through concurrent STEM and SEL learning.

Space weather can impact modern technological systems. As the sun progresses towards solar maximum, the peak in an eleven year activity cycle, dramatic space weather events (e.g., magnetic storms and auroral displays) will increase in frequency. In this workshop, we will use contemporary observations to examine the transfer of energy and momentum within the Solar-Terrestrial system that result in space weather events and affect technological systems.
