Campaign Issues

What do you feel are the biggest challenges facing New Yorkers and those in senate district 17 specifically regarding health care and what would you do to address them?

The healthcare system in Senate District 17, as in the rest of the state is inadequate and confusing; I would push for a Single Payer System.

What do you feel are the biggest challenges facing New Yorkers and those in senate district 17 specifically regarding voting and election reform and what would you do to address them?

The State legislature is stagnant. I would support term limits for state legislatures. I would also push for ethics rules to prevent state legislatures from using their official position to entrench themselves, making them unmovable by the electorate.

What do you feel are the biggest challenges facing New Yorkers and those in senate district 17 specifically regarding rent reform, tenant’s rights, and affordable housing and what would you do to address them?

I would provide an Earned Income Credit tied to the rate of inflation in the rental market to ensure that long-term tenants can pay the new high market rents. I would push for the creation of an entity in the DA’s office that would enforce the rent laws to protect tenants from harassment. Of course, I would support the building of as much affordable housing as possible.

What do you feel are the biggest challenges facing New Yorkers and those in senate district 17 specifically regarding civil rights and criminal justice and what would you do to address them?

Unfortunately, the entire legal system is in need to a Reformation, possible through a constitutional convention, which I’m not sure would ever be possible. Sadly, piecemeal changes will not achieve much is terms of real Civil Rights and Criminal Justice Reform.

What do you feel are the biggest challenges facing New Yorkers and those in senate district 17 specifically regarding resources for schools (elementary and secondary) and what would you do to address them?

The biggest challenge that continues to plague our school system is the unequal distribution of resource among school districts and also between the schools within school districts. We must educate people of this problem so that they will become supportive of the needed corrective measures.

What do you feel are the biggest challenges facing New Yorkers and those in senate district 17 specifically regarding immigrant rights and access to resources and what would you do to address them?

I would support the granting of the same benefits to immigrants as are enjoyed by citizens of the United States. Anyone living on American sole should have the same protection and access to resources as everyone else.

What do you feel are the biggest challenges facing New Yorkers and those in senate district 17 specifically regarding infrastructure and what would you do to address them?

As the City grows in population it is becoming increasingly difficult and time consuming to get from Point A to Point B. I would support a push for improvements in the transportation infrastructure in Senate District 17.

What other areas do you consider important and how will you address them?
