This is a four-credit course per semester. You will be graded based on your performance and contributions. There is no mandatory curve. The following components will be used to assess your performance:
Professionalism and demeanor: attendance, meeting deadlines, being prompt (on time to class sessions, supervision meetings, client meetings) professional work product, keeping files organized, updating supervisor, working well with team members, behaving with civility towards others;
Clarity of written and oral communication;
Quality of reflections, legal research, and case file memoranda;
Abiding by guidelines in the course manual including but not limited to: maintaining client confidentiality, procedures for maintaining files and submitting assignments, documenting your work by keeping a case log; updating and submitting timesheets on Clio a weekly basis; and
Attendance at and participation in projects, including remote legal immigration screenings for community members; or completing research assignments in a timely fashion;
One short presentation (15 minutes maximum) on a hot topic in humanitarian immigration law. Each student will be asked to sign up for a hot topic and to prepare a class presentation. You may work individually or in pairs of your choosing. I will be happy to suggest readings, videos, and other materials to help you on your presentation. These presentations will be held during the last two class sessions of the semester.
