Regents Prep Materials
The regents prep material is designed as a supplemental learning experience that supports, but does not replace, Tier 1 instruction. Its purpose is to provide students with additional opportunities to engage deeply with high-priority mathematical content in ways that strengthen understanding, build connections, and prepare them for success on the Regents exam. Rather than focusing on isolated test practice, the materials rely on conceptual understanding and sensemaking as the most effective pathways to long-term retention and transfer. These materials are designed to be in alignment with NYCPS Guidance for Preparing for the Regents Exam in an Illustrative Mathematics Classroom.
Two-Part Session Design
Each Regents prep session is intentionally structured into two complementary parts for a total of 90 minutes. These parts may be facilitated during a single 90-minute block of time or across two 45-minute blocks of time.
Part 1: Re-engagement and Concept Development (45 minutes)
Part 2: Practice & Application (45 minutes)
This set of videos features a full lesson of Illustrative Mathematics (Algebra 1, Unit 4 Lesson 6) taught by three sets of teachers at the same school. The 6-2 Launch videos feature the Co-craft Questions math language routine.
Katie Carson & Jack Kui (Algebra 1)
Mauricio Gonzalez & Jack Kui (Algebra 1)
These videos use student/teacher storytelling to provide an overview of some features of the Illustrative Mathematics curriculum.
This set of videos features a full lesson of Illustrative Mathematics (Algebra 1, Unit 4 Lesson 7). Following the videos is some brief commentary from the teacher and some students. The Warm-up features the Poll the Class routine, the 7-2 Launch video features the Notice and Wonder routine, the 7-2 Work & Synthesis video features the Compare and Connect math language routine, and the Activity 7-3 video features the Stronger and Clearer math language routine.
This set of videos features a full lesson of Illustrative Mathematics (Grade 7, Unit 7, Lesson 2). Each clip focuses on a different segment of the IM lesson structure (Warm-up, Activities, Lesson Synthesis).
Mia Price (7th Grade)
This set of videos features three full lessons of Illustrative Mathematics (Grade 6, Unit 3, Lesson 14; Grade 6, Unit 6, Lesson 8; & Algebra 2, Unit 2, Lesson 5 taken by 8th grader Algebra 1 students). Each clip focuses on a different segment of the IM lesson structure (Warm-up, Activities, Lesson Synthesis). In one class, the alternative teaching ICT model was used, so there are two clips featuring the same activity taught to different groups of students using different approaches.
