We retain most players year-to-year and select new players into the program throughout our annual tryouts. No player is guaranteed to make the team from year-to-year, and must re-earn their spot.
Teams will practice one or two times a week at Elmwood High School
We understand that there are problems with making every practice or being on-time, please just communicate with the coach or another player to tell the coach.
Fees should be paid on-time ($600= 5 tournaments, uniform, and shooting shirt). Players do not pay different amounts. You can't make a tournament? Sorry. Too many moving parts to this shindig to keep track AND you are taking up a spot someone else could have enjoyed.
Playing time is not equal in all games. Over the stretch of a tournament weekend, the playing time should level out. Although not an exact science. We expect coaches to keep an eye on this. As a parent, if you see your player sat for a particular game, please feel free to ask. Honestly, sometimes it happens intentionally (there are occasions when particular match-ups require certain strategy), sometimes unintentionally, and we need to know. Thanks.
We expect players to bring a certain level of fundamentals and skill. We do not have time to stop and work on the basics of basketball at all levels. 4th and 5th grade may spend more time reinforcing fundamentals and the 9th grade spend less. We will coach and expect more of your players than a typical AAU program. Expect to be coached like a school-based team. We will push the ball, press, and execute offenses. But every one of the players on your team will be talented and coached to a higher level.
Your teammates, coaches, other parents are your extended family. Like in any family, your coaches/parents are your biggest fans.
Middle School Sport Participants:
Typically, middle school coaches allow you to participate in other activities. Normally, track is immediately after school and players have little trouble performing both activities in a single evening. YOUR GRADES ARE MORE IMPORTANT to us than basketball, if you have to take a night off because of school commitments, so be it.
High School Participants:
High school coaches and practice schedules may not allow you to participate in NWO Eagles practices or games. If this is going to be a conflict, your school team takes precedence over the Eagles. There will be do reduced fees if splitting time. If you can't commit FULL TIME, then please don't try out.
The younger NWO Eagles look up to you. You ARE what they dream to BE! They learn from your talk, your walk, the way you shoot, the way you hustle, and want to be as good as you. Take the time to talk to them and encourage them.
