Nursing peer review involves evalutaing nursing services, the qualifications of a nurse, the wuality of patient care provided by a nurse, and the validity of a complaint about a nurse or nursing care. It incvludes making recommendationg regarding a complaint.
A nursing peer review may assess the practices of an LVN, RN, or APRN. This comitte is formed under hte auhtority of a national, state, or local nursing association, a nursing school, the nursing staff of healthcare facilities, etc.
The nursing peer review process involves fact-finding , analysis, and examination of events by nurses in a collaborative probelm-solving enviornment aimed at gathering all relevant information. Any nursing peer review conducted by such an entity must adhere to NPR law and relevant Board rules concering incident-based or safe harbor nursing peer review.
There are two types of nursing peer review. These include incident-based nursing peer review and Safe harbor nursing peer review.
