Nurfadhlina Mohd Sharef is a Professor at the Department of Computer Science, Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology, Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM). She obtained her PhD from University of Bristol, UK in Intelligent Systems and MSc in Software Engineering from Universiti Putra Malaysia, Malaysia. Her bachelor's study was on B. IT (System Science and Management). A leading Malaysian AI scholar with over 20 years of experience in AI, data science, digital transformation, and human–machine teaming. Her multidisciplinary portfolio spans AI governance, data ecosystems, digital inclusion, interactive machine learning, digital twins, personalized learning and precision biodiversity, reflecting a strong commitment to translating AI into societal and developmental impact across Asia. She has held major leadership roles including UPM Chief Digital Officer, Chair of the Young Scientist Network–Academy of Sciences Malaysia, Chair of the Academy of Sciences Malaysia Data Scientist Group for COVID19, and member of the National AI Roadmap Task Force and serves as an expert to UNESCO, ITU, ASEAN, ICESCO, APEC, and the British High Commission. With more than RM 4.6 million in competitive research grants from AFOSR (USA), ASEAN, APEC, and national bodies, she has demonstrated sustained capability in building research ecosystems, leading multi-country collaborations, and advancing responsible, inclusive, and gender-sensitive AI programs. She is usually assigned to teach courses related to Artificial Intelligence and general computer science skills such as Data Mining, Intelligent Computing, Algorithm Design and Analysis, and Research Methods in Computer Science. Her mantra in teaching is that experiential learning and blended learning are the best methods to learn and teach. She uses multiple teaching modalities to ensure engaging delivery and so that higher-order thinking skills can be obtained.
