Hillman's Technique
Non-Linear teaching style
The non-linear teaching method is a recognised and valid style. It can be likened to making a cake where ingredients of different types are prepared together, but separately from others of a different type, then combined expertly in the correct way and order before being baked, cooled and decorated as the final product. Many people find this teaching method which Hillman intersperses with theatrics and asides, rather difficult, since it does not follow a step by step clear logic. Although unusual, a good teacher will carefully take his students through each seperate section and give clear indication to how these elements are related and collectively combine to give valid support to the conclusion.
On the other hand, Hillman prefers to produce isolated segments, introducing a new translation or a new concept that appears to be unrelated to the next section in his show. He will produce several elements in this disjointed fashion, then draw a concluding statement. But that concluding statement might mention and need to include an element he had referenced once several shows prior, but a vague memory about it may linger enough in those who had managed to retain attention, thus appearing to them to give support to his conclusion. It may also be that many simply enjoy the show and just take away the conclusion without wanting to understand how he arrived at it. Not only is the teaching method confusing, but also when each element is analysed, very often, it has itself been produced from an equally invalid methodology as will be demonstrated on this page.
Orphic Vox
Text selection
Hillman habitually displays a Greek text not accompanied by any standard translation into English, preferring to do his own translating. His audience are largely insufficiently proficient in the Greek language to ascertain his accuracy, so will trust he produces an honest rendition. But what he both chooses to display and the sections he translates can be prejudicially edited. Here's an example from the show, First Denial: The Spark of Judaism.
In this presentation, Hillman was continuing his proposition on how the Jews created their own sex and drug mystery religion, Judaism, with a sole male deity, Yahu. Although the technically, correct term ought to be "monotheistic," Hillman calls this and the other Abrahamic Faiths, "monist." The monist sect of Judaism, he claims, developed out of what he alleges was a dualistic Hebrew mystery cult which honoured the Greek gods, Aphrodite and Eros with a female "Pantokrator" - all-powerful deity and use of female sexual emissions. He was working mainly from Wisdom of Solomon, an Apocryphal Old Testament book composed ca. 50 BCE. As his basis, he used Wis 12:3-6, part of a prayer by Simon Maccabee, the High Priest, (142-135 BC) to YHWH.
At 1:01:13 he displayed a section of the Septuagint taken from the ellopos.net site which he uses for his LXX screenshots, but conveniently only displayed some of verse 3 up to the very beginning of v 5. He translated v 4 as the practices of the Hebrews: Drug-taking (lit. "works of sorcery") (drug-taking) and unholy rites.
Then at 1:06:19 he added the whole of verse 5 and the opening of v 6. He only repeated verse 4 and then translated v 5, describing the murder of children, which referred to their sacrifice to Molech where they were consumed alive by fire. Yet Hillman claims this was the "burning off of their mortality" in a similar fashion to the action of Demeter to the infant she had been given to care for. The text also attributes to these people the eating of human sexual emisssions, flesh and blood amidst a bacchic frenzy by the initiates.
By neither displaying nor reading both the entire text of v 3 and v 6 (shown here), he obscured the essential context of the passage, which completely contradicts the narrative he has created from it in support of his Lady Babylon death-and-resurrection theory which he imagines that Jesus inherited from Judaism and practiced, himself. The translation of v 6, clarifies the context, saying, "parents, responsible for the death of helpless souls, you (YHWH) willed to destroy by the hand of our fathers."
However, these "fathers" would have been the very Hebrew ancestors of Abraham whom Hillman was alleging were the perpetrators of such acts during their mystery cult rituals, since verse 3 identifies the practitioners as the "former inhabitants of the land" - the Canaanite tribes. Following his own theory, he claims that a rival sect of Hebrews identified as the Judaeans (Jews) adopted their own deity, YHWH when Iaōn assimilated Sophia. This destroyed the duality of Hebrew religion and formed monist Judaism while continuing to do all these cultish dirty deeds. Then he claims these Jews rewrote their early cult history just like Christianity rewrote classical history.
Hillman has designed this entire show and its precursors as a historical back story to provide "proof" that Jesus was also doing the "Jewish" drug/sex/eating flesh, drinking blood mystery religion. Of course, "it's all in the language" that only Hillman can reveal, but through deceptive means, alone!
