Our Mission
Nova Scotia Forests Forever stands for policies that protect our forests from unsustainable exploitation and prevent activities that threaten ecosystem integrity. Through public education, advocacy and collaboration, we work to ensure that Nova Scotia’s forests remain healthy and resilient for generations to come. We share a deep commitment to safeguarding Nova Scotia’s forests, wetlands and wilderness areas. As an alliance, we welcome collaboration with other organizations who share our mission. This is a collaborative initiative led by Hutchinson Acres Maple Syrup Farm and the Blomidon Naturalist Society.
We support rapid implementation of the Nova Scotia government’s commitment to protect 15% of Nova Scotia by 2026 and 20% by 2030, including assessment and designation of protected area proposals currently being held by the Nova Scotia Department of the Environment, such as for the Chain Lakes Wilderness area. We call for a pause on all harvesting and roadbuilding in forests over 80 years of age on Crown Land in Nova Scotia until such time as the 20% target has been met. We support sustainable forestry operations.
We stand firmly against the reopening of uranium mining in Pictou County, Hants County and Annapolis Valley, recognizing the risk it poses to water quality, wildlife habitat and public health.
We recognize that Crown land, like the rest of Mi’kma’ki, is the traditional, ancestral, unceded territory of the Mi’kmaw people, who have treaty rights to consultation and decision-making in matters of these lands.
