What is School Counseling?

Most schools have teachers, principals, custodians, cooks, and school counselors. Many students know about the teachers, the principals, cooks, and even the custodians. However, many students do not know very much about the school counselors.

Try to think of a school counselor (me) as being a helper. I help students, parents, and teachers handle problems. Problems can be VERY BIG or they can be very small. Maybe you've heard of the saying "two heads are better than one." This means that a lot of the time two people can solve a problem better than one person can solve a problem. Think of me as an extra problem solver who can help you when you need it so that you can do your very best at school!

Sometimes you will see me in my office working with just one student or a group of students. When I am with students, I am helping. We all need a little help from time to time. It is ok to ask me for help!

You will also get to visit my classroom for Guidance lessons. If you are in Preschool, Third, Fourth or Fifth Grade you will see me every other week for 30 minutes. If you are Kindergarten, First, or Second Grade you will see me every week for about 50 minutes.
