Bullying is aggressive behavior that:
Occurs when there is a POWER IMBALANCE
Is intended to cause harm or distress and/or has a serious harmful or distressing effect on the target
Is ONE- SIDED
Is usually repeated over time
In our Guidance curriculum we use the Second Step Bully Prevention Program in Kindergarten through Fifth Grade. This program consists of five lessons taught consecutively.
In the Second Step Bully Prevention Program students learn:
How to recognize, report, and refuse bullying
The difference between bullying and conflict between peers
That they can refuse bullying in different ways
That bystanders can help stop bullying and that it’s the right thing to do
How bystanders can be part of the bullying problem
The similarities and differences between cyber bullying and other types of bullying
Ways to recognize and help stop cyber bullying
