Modern day healthcare delivery is evolving with a greater focus on having all providers perform as part of larger system; a highly functional health care team. Unfortunately, traditional health professional education is often delivered within the confines of discipline silos, and students have limited opportunity to collaboratively learn with and about the other professional roles of the multidisciplinary team (Masters et al., 2013). In this unit we will explore the constructs of the multidisciplinary team and interprofessional education, present some theoretical foundations to support teaching the multidisciplinary audience, and apply these concepts to teaching in the simulated learning (SIM) environment.
