Afiefa graduated from the School of Chemical Sciences, Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) in 2025, and joined our team for Master research in organic synthesis and its biological activities.

Nazir is a Lecturer in the Department of Chemistry, Nigerian Army University Biu, Borno State. He had his BSc. (Hons) Chemistry from Gombe State University, Gombe-Nigeria. He joined our team for Master by research in natural products organic chemistry. He is on Malaysia International Scholarship (MIS) Scholarship from the Malaysia Government.

Titus pursued a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry (Education) as a major from University of Education, Winneba (UEW), Ghana.and He then worked as a Chemistry & Physics teacher at Kongo Senior High school (KONSEC) in the Upper East Region of Ghana for four years. He joined our group to pursue his Msc. in Organic Chemistry with specialization in natural product chemistry. He is funded by Malaysia International Scholarship (MIS) under the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE), Malaysia.

Mustapha obtained his B.Sc. in Biochemistry and M.Sc. in Pharmaceutical Chemistry (Natural Products) from the University of Maiduguri, Borno State, Nigeria. He currently serves as a Science Officer at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of the same university. He joined our team to pursue a PhD in Natural Products with sponsorship from the Borno State Scholarship Board (BSSB).

Hasan pursued a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry as a major from Mutah University and M.Sc in Chemistry from Al al-Bayt University, Jordan. He then worked as a ‘Senior Analyst’ at the United Pharmaceuticals Mfg. Co. Ltd. and as a Teacher of Chemistry for eight years. He joined our group to pursue his Ph.D. in Organic chemistry. He was partially funded by Universiti Sains Malaysia GRA-Assist scheme.

Solehin was graduated from the School of Chemical Sciences, Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), and joined our team for a Master research in natural products chemistry. He was funded by MARA Graduate Excellence Programme (GREP). Currently, she will continue to PhD level in October 2024 under USM GRA-Assist.

Najihah was graduated from the Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT) and Master’s research in Natural Products Chemistry at the same university. Her Master’s study was funded by the Fundamental Research Grant Scheme (FRGS) under the Ministry of Higher Education Malaysia, as well as the Yayasan Terengganu Scholarship (YT). She is currently continuing her research with us as a PhD student at the Natural Products and Synthetic Organic Laboratory (NPSOLab) in Penang. Her research focuses on the application of the MixONat ^13C-NMR dereplication strategy for the study of Aglaia odoratissima, an endemic and newly reported species in Malaysia. Her doctoral study is funded by the MyBrainSc scholarship under the Ministry of Higher Education Malaysia (MOHE).

Ghazal obtained his Bachelor of Pharmacy from the University of Ilorin, Ilorin. He joined our research team for a Master research, focusing on the molecular pharmacology of synthetic compound.

Khairul Nizam is a Research Officer from School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM). He was graduated from School of Chemical Sciences, Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) for Bachelor (BSc.) and Master degree (MSc.). He join our team for a doctoral research in organic synthesis and anti cholinesterase activity. He was funded by Ministry of Higher Education under Hadiah Latihan Persekutian (HLP).

Shira was graduated from the School of Chemical Sciences, Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), and joined our team for a Master research in organic synthesis and anti-diabetic activity. She was partially funded by Fundamental Research Grant Scheme (FRGS) under Ministry of Higher Education and MARA Graduate Excellence Programme (GREP). Currently, she will continue to PhD level in October 2023 under Fundamental Research Grant Scheme (FRGS) project.

Selva graduated from Bharathidasan University, India, and joined our team as a PhD student in organic synthesis. He has several years of industrial experience in the pharmaceutical industry as a synthetic organic chemist. He is a part-time PhD. student and currently working at Symbiotica Speciality Ingredients Sdn. Bhd.

Hassan graduated from the Department of Biochemistry, Faculty of Pure and Applied Sciences, Kwara State University, Malete, Nigeria, where he obtained both his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees. He later joined our research team to pursue his PhD, focusing on cancer biology and natural products. His doctoral studies were fully funded by the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND) of the Nigerian Government. Currently, he has been promoted to the position of Lecturer I in the Department of Biochemistry.

Akrimi was graduated from the Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS), and joined our team for a Master research in natural products chemistry and wound healing activity. She was funded by Fundamental Research Grant Scheme (FRGS) under Ministry of Higher Education and MARA Graduate Excellence Programme (GREP). This project is a collaboration project with Institute of Pharmaceutical and Nutraceutical Malaysia (IPharm).
NPSO ALUMNUS
Research Attachment (2026)
Risma completed a research attachment with the NSPO team from January 12th, 2026, to February 11th, 2026 (1 month). She earned her Master's degree in Chemistry from Universitas Padjadjaran, Bandung, Indonesia, specializing in organic chemistry of natural products. Her thesis focused on the isolation of terpenoids from a species within the Dysoxylum genus. She is now pursuing a PhD in Organic Chemistry, working under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Unang Supratman, M.S. Her doctoral research is funded by the PMDSU (Program Magister–Doktor Sarjana Unggul) scholarship from the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology of Indonesia.

Sabrina completed a research attachment with the NSPO team from 12/01/2026 - 11/02/2026 (1 month). She graduated with a Master’s degree in Chemistry from Universitas Padjadjaran, Bandung, Indonesia, specializing in the organic chemistry of natural products. She is currently pursuing a PhD in Organic Chemistry under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Unang Supratman, M.S. Her study is funded by the Program Magister–Doktor Sarjana Unggul (PMDSU) scholarship from the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology of Indonesia. Her thesis focused on the isolation of secondary metabolites from endophytes fungi isolated from plants of the Meliaceae family.

Nkiruka Theresa Nnadozie obtained her B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees in Chemistry in Nigeria and is currently completing her PhD in Organic Chemistry at the University of Abuja, Nigeria. She is a Lecturer in the Department of Chemistry at the Federal University of Lafia, Nigeria. Her research focuses on natural product chemistry, particularly the bioassay-guided isolation and characterization of bioactive compounds from Cleome gynandra for antimalarial activity. She joined the NPSOLab research group for a research attachment is funded by the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), Nigeria.

Tazkiyah completed a research attachment with the NPSO team on 01/7/2025-29/7/2025 (1 month). She is a final-year student at the State Islamic University (UIN) Sunan Gunung Djati Bandung, Indonesia, in Organic Synthesis. Her research project focuses on the synthesis of Kingianin derivative compounds.

Annisa did research attachment with NPSO team on 2/7/2025 - 28/7/2025 (1 month). Currently, she is an undergraduate student majoring in Chemistry at UIN Sunan Gunung Djati Bandung. She joined our research team as part of a mini research project focusing on the organic synthesis of quinoxaline derivatives.

Margot Rozière did a research attachment with the NPSO team from 26/5/2025 to 22/9/2025 (4 months). She is a student at the engineering school Sigma Clermont, Clermont-Ferrand, France, specializing in the chemistry of natural products. Her research project focuses on the study of essential oils from different plant species such as kaffir lime, lemon myrtle, and lemongrass.

Ming graduated from Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS). Currently, he is a Master student at Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) and joined our team for a research project in natural product chemistry which is focused on Diospyros species.

Cheong Siong graduated from Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP). He has been working as a chemist at Merieux NutriSciences Malaysia Sdn. Bhd. Currently, he is a Master student at Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) and joined our team for a small research project in organic synthesis.

Xin Yi graduated from the Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP) and joined our team for a Master research in polymer synthesis. She was funded by the Fundamental Research Grant Scheme (FRGS) under the Ministry of Higher Education.
Research Attachment (2025)
Bashir obtained his Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree from Bayero University Kano, Nigeria. He later proceeded to Université Grenoble Alpes(UGA), France, where he earned a Master’s degree in Organic Synthesis for Pharmaceutical and Agrochemical Industries (SOIPA).
Currently, he is pursuing a PhD in Natural Product Chemistry at Aliko Dangote University of Science and Technology Wudil, Nigeria. As part of his doctoral training, Bashir undertook a research attachment with the NPSO Team from April to June 2025 (Sponsored by Tetfund). His research interests focus on phytochemical analysis, natural product isolation, and the identification of bioactive compounds from medicinal plants with potential pharmaceutical applications.

Latifat visited NPSO team for a research attachment from 3rd of March to 3rd of September, 2025, sponsored by Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TetFund) scholarship scheme in Nigeria. She had her BSc. in Botany from University of Jos, Nigeria. She earned her M.Sc. degree in Pharmacognosy from University of Ibadan, Nigeria, where she is currently pursuing her PhD. She is working on identification of bioactive antidiabetic agents from medicinal plants. Her research focuses majorly on identification and characterization of cyclotides, a unique class of peptide as antidiabetic agents. Latifat works as a lecturer at Kwara State University, Nigeria.
Research Attachment (2024-2025)
Abdulmalik completed a research attachment with the Natural Products and Synthetic Organic (NPSO) team from 23 November 2024 to 24 April 2025 (5 months). He is currently awaiting graduation from the School of Postgraduate Studies, Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, Bauchi, Bauchi State, Nigeria, where he pursued his postgraduate studies in the Department of Chemistry (Organic Chemistry). His research specialization is in organic synthesis, and his project focuses on the synthesis of heteroaryl N-acetyl and N-formyl pyrazoline derivatives.

Shofiatul Fuadah, a Master’s student in Pharmacy from Universitas Islam Indonesia, under the supervision and research project of Dr. apt. Arba Pramundita Ramadani, S. Farm., M. Sc., conducted a research attachment at the Natural Products Chemistry and Synthesis Organic (NPSO) group, Universiti Sains Malaysia, from February to May 2024. The research carried out during this attachment formed part of her master’s thesis and focused on the purification and identification of compounds derived from natural product exploration with potential antimalarial activity.

She is a doctoral student in the Chemistry Doctoral Program at Universitas Padjadjaran, Bandung, Indonesia. Ibrahim is a la lecturer from the Department of Science. Laboratory Technology College of Natural Science, Umaru Ali Shinkafi Polytechnic Sokoto, Sokoto Nigeria. He obtained B.Sc. Applied chemistry from Usman Danfodio University Sokoto, Nigeria and M.Sc in Pharmaceutical Science (Drugs Discovery and Design) from the University of Wolverhampton United Kingdom. Acyl did research attachment with NPSO team on 22/5/2023 - 11/8/2023 (3 months). He graduated from the Engineering School Sigma Clermont, Clermont-Ferrand, France, in the chemistry of natural products. His research project is in studies of Alpinia species (Zingiberaceae).

Intan did research attachment with NPSO team on 6/2/2023 - 5/2/2023 (1 month). She is a MSc student under Prof. Dr. Unang Supratman from Universitas Padjadjaran, Indonesia. Her research topic is chemical constituents isolated from Meliaceae species.

Currently, she is a lecturer in the Chemistry Department, Faculty of Science and Technology, UIN Sunan Gunung Djati Bandung, Indonesia.
