Welcome to NPSO Research Group
Natural Products & Synthesis Organic (NPSO) Research Laboratory
Natural Products & Synthesis Organic (NPSO) Research Laboratory
Our research group are focusing on Natural Products Chemistry and Synthesis Organic (NPSO). In the Natural Products domain, we have worked on both the rare Malaysian forest plants and also common plants used as food and traditional medicine in Malaysia. The forest plant studied covers those from the families of Lauraceae, Meliaceae, Euphorbiaceae, Myristicaceae, Apocynaceae and Rubiaceae. As for the food and medicinal plants, we have studied in particular the family Zingiberaceae. These studies have contributed to us gaining experience and expertise in the field of chromatographic analysis (isolation of pure compounds) and spectroscopic analysis (structural elucidation). The type of compounds isolated and identified in our laboratory are cyclic polyketides, phenylpropanoids, isoquinoline and indole alkaloids, terpenes (monoterpenes, sesquiterpenes, diterpenes and triterpenes), flavonoids, limonoids and lignans. Recently, we have performed Structure-Activity Relationship Studies (SAR), Molecular Docking and total synthesis of natural products.
We are happy to welcome Prof Mohammad M. Ibrahim to NPSO Laboratory. He is our visiting scientist from 12/07/2023 to 12/09/2023. His research domain is organic synthesis focusing on the synthesis of heterocyclic compounds and multi-component synthesis. We hope you have a good stay with us and we are happy to welcome you to our big family!.
