At North Point, we are huge advocates for the multi-sport athlete. Competing in different sports throughout the year not only keeps our athletes in peak physical condition, but it also builds well-rounded competitors.
For those who aren't participating in another sport during the off-season, we offer structured conditioning, sports-specific training, and summer training opportunities to ensure you are ready to compete at the highest level when spring arrives.
PRACTICE TIME:
The Track and Field practice structure is different from many other sports. The sport of Track and Field is made up of various specialty/event groups. The coaching and training demands of these groups can make starting and ending practice at a set time daily near impossible.
Our practice window is from 3:00 PM - 5:30 PM. While event group start times may vary, no event group will start before 3:00 PM and no group will end training after 5:30 PM.
***Dismissal times are based on the daily training demand of each event group.
Sprinters & Jumpers: (T, W, Th, F) 3:00 PM - 4:30 PM
Throwers: (T, W, Th, F) 3:00 PM - 4:30 PM
D-Crew: (Mon - Fri) 3:00 PM - 5:30 PM
PRACTICE APPAREL:
North Point student-athletes are expected to attend practice daily in North Point gear (any sport or club apparel) and/or school colors (Blue, Orange, White).
Black and Grey is acceptable…
NO GOLD, RED, PURPLE, GREEN ETC.
Warm-up attire (sweat/dri-fit shirt, sweat pants) are required daily until May.
PUNCTUALITY:
Track practice begins at 3:00 PM. Student-athletes are allowed a 30+ minute window after school to complete homework, socialize, change clothes etc.. Student-athletes will not be allowed to practice if they fail to arrive by our team meeting at 3:00 PM (unexcused).
ATTENDANCE:
Track and Field athletes are required to be at practice on-time every day. If for some reason the student-athlete can’t be at practice, it is their responsibility to contact their event coach and Coach Tripp ahead of time (if possible) to let them know.
If he/she is sick and does not attend school, please email, or text through Google Chat sometime during the day. We can’t stress enough that communication with the coaches is the key to avoiding attendance issues.
SPRING BREAK PRACTICES:
Unless voted on unanimously by the team’s leadership, we will practice (at normal practice time) and compete during spring break; please plan ahead. If a family leaves for vacation or a student-athlete misses practice during spring break, he may potentially miss up to 3 opportunities to compete in meets. This is not a punishment, but the reality of not being present to attend. Spring Break is an unfortunate challenge that spring sports have to navigate.
CONDITIONING PERIOD:
Each athlete must have participated in 14 school conditioning practices on 14 different days prior to the date of the first interscholastic contest in all sports.
This requirement shall be met if a student has been member of another school sports team immediately preceding the sport season, has been actively practicing with the sport team, has had 14 days of physical conditioning and begins physical conditioning practice with the new sport team with no more than seven calendar days having passed between the two sports before beginning practice.
