Message: Jesus reveals perfect love to us. Our response to that love should be faithfulness and discipleship, but we are freely able to accept or reject God's love and gift of Heaven.
Prayer: Hail, Holy Queen
The Sacred Heart reminds us what “Perfect Love” looks like. The Crown of Thorns represents the Passion of Christ and his victory over death. Christ tells us in the Gospel, “The greatest love you can have for your friends is to give your life for them” (John 15:13). There is also a Cross on top which reminds us of the death on the Cross and the sword that pierced his side is also pictured. St. Margaret Mary Alcoque said that the cross is planted in the heart and appears much smaller because the entire reality of the crucifixion derives its meaning from and cannot be understood apart from the heart of Jesus. The fire denotes the final sacrifice. Before Jesus was born, there were sacrifices of burnt offerings to God. Jesus was the perfect and final sacrifice. Christ is the Light of the World which is symbolized by the rays of light coming from around the heart.
Jesus showed us through his life on earth what perfect love looks like and reminds us of our call to be perfect and holy. He left us the Holy Spirit and the sacraments to assist us in this journey that is not always going to be easy. His life also showed us how to use our free-will to make decisions that accept God’s love for us and that share this love with everyone (even our enemies, since they are beloved children of God). Through imitating His life, we are better able to live our own lives to the fullest extent.

5 Minutes: Take a look at a picture of the Sacred Heart together and see if your child(ren) can point out the different symbols and what they could each represent. Goal: Child will learn more about sacred art and how it can be used to share the faith with others.
15 Minutes: Look at the Beatitudes as a family (Matthew 5:1-12). Put each of them into your own words and talk about what your child(ren) can do to live out that Beatitude in their life and how you can live it out as an adult. Goal: Child will learn how happiness can come out of suffering and how to implement what they learn from Scripture into their daily life.
30 Minutes: Take a look at each of the sacraments and remember what they are, what happens during them and what gifts are given through them. Talk about how the sacraments change us and what the world would look like if everyone knew and received the sacraments.
