Genealogy Interest Group

In late 2019 Lodge members indicated a desire to reinvigorate an earlier Genealogy Interest Group (GIG). Consequently, regular monthly meetings began in 2020.

After a hiatus in winter 2026, the GIG is active again. The focus is now on sharing results of their own endeavors rather than having predominantly external speakers.

GIG Objective - to provide a forum for Lodge members to share their common interest in their Norwegian family histories, to learn more on genealogical sources and resources, plus learn more of Norway’s cultural history and its impact on our ancestors.

Active participation is necessary!

Want Help? Are you stuck in your search on one of your Norwegian ancestors? Frustrated with conflicting and/or vague information? Cannot find a desired record? If so, then you could have a dreaded genealogy ‘Brick Wall’. See:

Tried everything and now wish outside help? The GIG is here to assist you! Other GIG members may have had a similar difficulty and can share ideas on how to successfully proceed. Let Joel and Alexis know if you are interested in presenting your ‘Brick Wall’ to seek help from GIG members. Upon request, the GIG will add a Genealogy Support Group Session as part of a regular meeting agenda to enable a member to share their research woe, hear how others overcame their Brick Walls, and to collectively share/generate problem-solving ideas. If you request a Support Group Session, plan your information to share in advance. Be as specific in describing your ‘Brick Wall:’ state what you know, identify sources, and describe your difficulty to facilitate GIG discussion and problem solving.
