State Projects are entry-level competitive events designed to introduce members to Family, Career and Community Leaders of America competitions. These projects allow students to explore topics of interest while developing research, organization, and presentation skills.

State Projects are typically created ahead of time in the form of posters or binders and are submitted for evaluation by judges. Some projects may be turned in early at Fall Competition Day for preliminary judging, while all projects have the opportunity to be evaluated at the State Leadership Conference.

These events are a great starting point for members who are new to competition and want to gain experience before advancing to more in-depth competitive events.

STAR Events (Students Taking Action with Recognition) are one of the most dynamic and in-depth competitive opportunities offered through Family, Career and Community Leaders of America. These events allow members to apply what they’ve learned in the classroom to real-world situations through project-based learning.

Participants select a category that aligns with their interests, such as culinary arts, education, leadership, or community service, and develop a comprehensive project over time. STAR Events typically include a portfolio (binder or digital), a hands-on project, and a live presentation in front of judges.

Students are evaluated on their ability to plan, execute, and reflect on their work, as well as their communication and professionalism during competition. Members can advance through regional/district, state, and national levels, with top performers earning the opportunity to compete at the highest level.

STAR Events challenge students to think critically, solve problems, and showcase their skills, making them a powerful experience for both personal growth and career readiness.
